The Acadian was the Nova, and later the Chevette, but only the Pontiac versions. We still got the Chevy Nova and Chevette. Canada seems to love it's own personal Pontiac, considering the Beaumont. We've also had the Wave (G3) for years, which is a Pontiacified Aveo.

An Acadian Canso, which is a small fishing village in Guysborough Co. Nova Scotia.... that was never Acadian. :P

Another Canso.

My brother had a black one of these, but it was an 80's model with a Porno Red interior.

And the ultra rare Acadian Scooter.:rollin:

A Wave.

And the pre-G5 Pursuit.

Canada seems to be the testing ground for Pontiac. We had the Pontiac Parisienne before you guys, your T1000 was our Acadian, your J2000 was our Sunbird, we had (an Isuzu built) Sunfire long before the J-body version USA had, we had the Pontiac Pursuit before you guys had the G5, the Wave before you guys got the G3

There was another unique-to-Canada Pontiac in the 60's, too - as the Acadian was a Pontiac-ified Nova, so the Beaumont was a Pontiac-ified Chevelle.

Come to think of it, Canada seems to be a place where many manufacturers issue their "beta" cars, not quite sure if they're ready for US primetime. Hyundai first entered Canada in '84 with a car that was definitely not ready for the US market, the Pony. Nissan recently sold an Escape-sized SUV here called the X-trail that was not sold stateside. Mercury sold trucks here for years, as another thread pointed out (and ironically, Mercury left the Canadian market entirely a few years ago).

And most Americans have probably never heard of GM's "Passport Motors", vehicles "Manufactured using the worldwide resources of General Motors". It was a sales outlet for Isuzu, Saab, and Opel/Daewoo before Saturn came along. I actually owned a Passport Optima (you Americans would better know it as a Pontiac Lemans, Europeans would better know it as an Opel Kadette).

Conversely, some long-established manufacturers only tiptoed into Canada recently. I think it was '99 or '00 before the first Mitsubishi dealership showed up in the great white north. Scion is yet to show its face up here (though I think it's supposed to happen soon). Saturn came here in '92, a year after it entered the US market.

And a voice that will make your head implode.

Vegas can keep her, thanks. ;) It's fair game for taking the rest of our talent.

I've never heard of an Acadian Beaumont, since they're two different cars. Like Thunder Chicken said, Acadians, like that one, were Novas or Chevy IIs (I think), but the Beaumont was a Chevelle. Was it a trim level or something?

And I had no idea there was no X-trail in the US. Hmh. I'm very surprised we got a Nissan SUV exclusively. Don't forget that the Smart division was here for a few years before they moved into the US market. They required $4/gal. gas to make that jump.

As for the X-trail, it's not all that special.

Acadian was a brand sold through Canadian Pontiac dealers. Kind of like how Merkur was sold through Lincoln Mercury dealers.

Interesting. Pretty bad when an American is schooling Canadians on Canada-market cars :mullet: Oh well, as the old GI-Joe morality messages would say: Now we know, and knowing is half the battle.

There was another Canada-specific Pontiac, as well: The 88-90-something Pontiac Tempest was a rebadged Chevy Corsica
