90 tbird sc - going rate?

Theres a guy on my local forum trying to sell one with blown head gaskets for 1500.  I think thats a bit steep, and am trying to see a reason why its worth anything more than 500.  What do you guys think.  I think it would make a good replacement winter daily for me.  I just dont have alot of free time on my hands currently to change head gaskets, let alone how bad the cylinders will be rusted after 2 months:beatyoass:

I have one as my winter/all year round driver and parts for these beasts are kind of expensive.
It's not worth any more than 500.00 tops as your gonna have to do a engine rebuild now.
There will be rust on internal engine components not to mention the bearing surfaces being wiped by coolant.
It may not knock now but will soon after repair.
Common tail with the 3.8L.
Also it has rust, not a good sign, how are the rockers under those skirts???
I'll bet bad as it has a moonroof and the water drains into the rockers.
Not worth your time or money at this point.

well do we know if the heads are off of it? but i would suspect some rust on the berrings. Also id look at those rockers extremely close even with the moonroof. But it being a 5-speed it would be worth right now a little bit over 500. And yes there super expencive. ALso do you know if the balencer was replaced? If its stock plan spending about 400 on one once you have a problen with the stocker.

My stock one lasted 170k before the bolt broke.
Replaced the bolt and all was good.
The balancers can and do go eventually but they can last some time.
There won't be any rust on the bearings per say but they will be wiped close to the babbit material and the clearances will be too high,if not now soon.
The moonroof is the reason why you need to look at the rockers.
My last sc(91)had a moonroof and the drains empty into the rockers(dumb idea, thanks ford) and they where gone.
My current 89 has no moonroof and the rockers are mint.
Not saying they won't rot if you don't have a moonroof but they rot more when you do.
The fact that it's stick makes it worth no more.
The problem remains that it still needs quite a bit of money to be put into it to make it a reliable driver again.
I bought my 89 for 500 bucks(there a dime a dozen with blown hg's,engines, abs problems or rotted bodies) cdn with a blown engine and it's never seen winter until this year.
However it has been thourougly coated with por-15.
WAY over priced at 1500.

maybe I will stay away.  He was willing to trade for my taurus though which is what I want to get rid of because its just not very fun, but with the amount of rust it has already, I doubt the rockers are intact.

I just bought my mint 5.0L HO bird back with blown HGs for $800.

it all depends on how bad you want one I guess....  I know I paid more then it was worth but try and find a rust free bird around here...  Dominator can vouch for that.....  I still wanna kick him in the nuts for scoring that SC on me....  LMAO.

Yeah, I didnt think they would be worth that much in that condition.  Sad thing is, now he's changing the head gaskets again(because he came out and said he didnt do them right the first time by leaving gasket material on there:rollin: ) and then he's gonna want 1750:rollin: :rollin: :rollin:
