The "New" Tbird

I got to drive the "new" 86 to work today.  Besides having no heat (not a problem here) and a dead Ford radio she drives quite nicely.

I actually bought the car 6 years ago and immediately sold it to my son who used it for 6 months and sold it to my daughter, it has come back home.

It's a standard Tbird with the 3.8, a/c, pw, pdl, tilt, cruise control, cloth interior and electric mirrors.  The paint is shot (metalic clearcoat taupe) with completely weathered poly wheels.  The rear seat has a tear that's quite fixable and the mirrors don't go left.

I'm going to drive it while I fix the 82 Cougar wagon.  If it goes well maybe a paint job and new wheels and tires are in the future.  I converted the a/c to 134a a couple of years back so it's still cold.

The only thing missing is the warranty plate which I'll check with the previous owner who bought it new to see if she still has it somewhere.  The dealer she bought it from went out of buisiness about 5 years ago.  Van Dyck Ford of Trona, California. I have the original radio, tire, battery manuals as well as the owners' manual.

Quite a pleasure compared to my Ford Ranger.  I'm getting a bit older so the luxury comforts are welcome.

I took the pictures at night but you get the idea.  The last picture shows a kitty litter box.  Sorry but this is my oil drip pan so there's no litter...

Naw.  I'll stick with the six.  Unless a good H.O. Mustang comes along.  We have to be carefull of the smog puppies's here.  It's pretty simple if you install an engine that was actually available in the particular car that's being engine swapped.

After driving the Ranger with 100 hp, and the Cougar with 88 hp, 120 feels powerful!:burnout:

one of my freinds had a mitsubishi mirage. I let him drive me home after a late night. He was going 85 on the freeway and talked about how fast it was. Its a good thing that was only a 87 3.8...

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I know, I could remove the rear window and toss out the trunk lid and it can be a Thunderchero.

Just kidding....:D
