what does this plug do? December 27, 2008, 01:23:14 AM It's on both sides of the car at the C-pillar. Quote Selected
what does this plug do? Reply #1 – December 27, 2008, 01:31:13 AM Some cars were optioned with rear dome lights....Kinda like GM A-Bodies in the 70's. They had a round circular light in the trim above the rear seat. Usually cougars had the lights, T-Bird had the same harness. Quote Selected

The other plug in the picture goes to the courtesy light set in the C-pillar. Quote Selected

what does this plug do? Reply #4 – December 27, 2008, 08:31:20 AM In the photo, the top connector goes to the rear courtesy lights in the sail panels. The circled connector goes to the external C-pillar coach lamps. At least on the Cougar, you had to get both on a 1983-86 vehicle (one required the other); I'm not sure if that worked the same for a T-Bird. Wasn't the Heritage the only model with the coach lamps? I know the rear courtesy lamps could still be had through '86 in the T-Bird...so that harness would be only half-used, which would explain why that connector is simply hanging there. Quote Selected
what does this plug do? Reply #5 – December 27, 2008, 11:03:33 AM My 88 has the courtesy lamp connectors, but not the coach lamp connectors. They were not connected to anything (IE they weren't "live"), though - just plugging lights in will not make them work. The rear courtesy lamps were available in 87-88 - my parts TC had 'em, which I've transferred into my '88. Because they weren't connected to anything I had to tap into the dome light circuit to make 'em light up. Quote Selected
what does this plug do? Reply #6 – December 27, 2008, 11:56:02 AM Right Carm, that sounds correct. That harness was changed for 1987-88 cars since there were no more external coach lamps as options; only the courtesy lamps were optional for those model years. The connector should be part of the main harness going back to the trunk/taillight area as part of the standard harness. Now on the earlier cars (1983-86), the coach lamp/courtesy lamp harness was added on to the main harness, and only if the car had at least the courtesy lamps (or in the case of the Cougar, the courtesy lamps and the coach lamps - required to be together). what does this plug do? Reply #7 – December 27, 2008, 10:58:22 PM Thanks for the responses. I just put a voltmeter on it (all key off). Door open, headlight switch "off" - 0VHeadlight switch to middle position, ie running lights on - 9.6V Headlights switch to "on" - 9.1VThe car came optioned with stereo casette + premium sound, interior light group (can't remember the correct name), manual seats and locks, no vent window, no block heater, no equalizer.
