New Problem!!!!!

ok, my car was running fine for like 2 days.. then right now i went to start it to pick my son up and when i turn the ignition nothing comes on.. no lights, no beep, no nothing as if the battery was dead... i checked everything last night to make sure no lights were on so i wouldn't drain the battery... my dad said its probly the tfi module. he said he use to have the same year tempo that did exactly that and it was the TFI... can someone tell me if thats what it could be.

Before you dive too deep into it, try pulling the battery cables off the battery, cleaning the clamps and terminals, and reconnecting. This happens if there is any sort of bad connection--the car acts like the battery doesn't even exist; I clean the terminals, and problem solved.

If it's not the battery,I'm guessing the ignition switch in the column (not the ignition tumbler the key goes in to).

yeah,, remove that steering column lower cover.

cycle the key on and off while wiggle testing the harness that plugs into the ignition switch.  IT wouldnt be a bad idea to have your radio on AM while you wiggle test but you already said you have "nothing".

the odds of it being a tfi are slim to siltch, and I would be willing to bet a tennasee note on it.

Visual check the wiring going in as well.
remove the switch and observe the linkage that slides down to make / break the contacts in the switch and look for excessive wear.

i hate these kind of problems.

Also,
put a meter on the battery and observe the voltage
turn key forward and watch voltage
turn key to start and observe voltage

if at any point the meter starts to drop quickly but the starter does not kick in , post the results.

Check out the 3g sticky for a quick ref of the start circuit, otherwise the details someone like you can dabble through easily are posted in the sticky with the 87evtm.
