Swapping again...

Well,my 5 speed swap was a total success, but I just got a freshly rebuilt WC T-5 today.Receipts and all.Friday morning,8:00,we're swapping in the new T-5.The current tranny will be sold I suppose.swapping so soon ( it'll be a week when we do the work) seems kind of crazy, but,I couldn't turn down a World Class tranny with a fresh rebuild with paperwork. Not a big deal, but I thought I'd share.

You know Tom,I didn't know that (I'm just a sponge soaking up new info all the time,LOL).I DO know, that it's very fresh, ready to install, comes with a stage 2 clutch kit, affordable for my cheap, tight budget, and comes with the paperwork.I know the guy really well who has it.I knew when he got it,and also knew he had it in his garage after about a month of use when he sold the car and bought the '95 Stang that had an added 6 speed.I'll sell the tranny in the Bird now and get what i can for it.I'm really glad I did the swap.Kitz talked me into (as he did the Mass Air upgrade.I caved pretty easy.LOL).Tom,you've also been a HUGE help when I first went to the H.O upgrade.I've learned tons since then. You got me through it.I still appreciate that from you,and the time you took to answer my 500 questions.

keep the 2nd tranny. i know youre not a power hungry mad man, but you might loose the syncros faster in the rebuilt one.... i'd wait till the one you have goes bad then swap the new one in it.

I'll post the details of the new one as soon as I can.It was built wicked strong.I'm still learning all this stuff, but I understand what i read.I just don't remember it all.LOL.I may keep it for a while,we'll see.I need the money to finish the bodywork and get prepped for paint.I'm not going to spend a lot of time thrashing the car.I just bought 4 new tires, and really can't afford to buy more right now.

I can't remember the brand name.It wasn't Spec.I'll find out and let you know.he keeps every receipt for everything. He spent $280.00 for the clutch kit,and over a thousand for the tranny. The clutch kit I'm using now is new, about 50 to 60 miles on it,but it's just a stock type replacement clutch kit.I don't really mind if the clutch is stiff or not,as long as it does it's job very well,I'll adapt.

No such thing as a wicked strong T5, the 2.95 1st gear Ford Racing "Z" versions are only rated at 330ft lbs of torque... Unless you're using a custom $$$$ gear set, AFIK 330 is it... Pre '89 World Class T5 with the 3.35 1st were rated at something like 265ft lbs, not much more than the 4 cyl versions... In '89, a improved 3.35 gear set was released which upped the rating to around 295ft lbs... IF you don't beat on those too badly, they'll live...

Why does a devout AOD man know about T5s??? Killed my share in the 5.0 Stang...

Why didn't Borg Warner design them stronger??? The first ones were used in AMC's and Chevettes, so are physically a small transmission designed to fit a subcompact car... Tremec, or Richmond Gear(no OD) 5 speeds would have never seen light of day, if there wasn't a market for it...

I don't know anything about the specs but I find it funny that the t5 are supposedly so weak!  I've seen them take crazy abuse behind a 400hp 5.0; launches on drag radials and clutchless shifting.  broke rears and other things but after 300,000 of a driver who abused the  out and never gave it a break the  thing is still going string!

I'll have the details as soon as I get to his house and we swap the tranny. It was built in Oklahoma City by a company called Blumenthal's.Totally new everything in this transmission.Toby ( my friend with the tranny) said that it was built stronger than a Cobra Mustang tranny.Again, more details when I get the printed info.

i dont know of any companies that make "stronger" gear seats for a T5, other than G-Force. if it was behind a 95, the input shaft is 5/8" longer.
