we had a drivers school today. i went, got some good instruction, and 8 runs in. lots of seat time!

times:
67.386 +1
63.294
59.884 +2(instructor driving my car)
DNF (broke on the starting line)
60.499
61.535
60.623 +1
59.520 +2

it was a "down-and-back" layout with a pin turn(180*)....i over drove the out of the pin turn...last two runs i started to get the hang of it finally

on my fourth run, i launched the car and heard a light pop/hiss...then i heard lots of boost build up, but the car wasnt moving like it should. blown coupler. pulled off and around, cussed alot, kicked my tool box and remembered i had DUCT TAPE in it!

quick tape job, and i didnt even miss my 5th run.

i had to re-tape after each run. duct tape has a high burst pressure, but it cant take the heat right off the turbo. here is the carnage after i got home and removed the tape

this coupler has less than 3months use on it. i will be making a call to race parts solution tonight or monday. if they will not help me out on this thing, i will go back to buying couplers from high temp silicone....

the course layout used today for the school is the same course layout they will run tomorrow for the event. so, since i cannot run tomorrow, i can use the times posted after the event to judge how well i was gettin around the course today.

What size is that? Maybe you can use a metal elbow with silicon straights to connect things?

Suck that the coupler failed.

Darrin @ RPS is a good guy I would intrested to hear what he does
for you about the coupler.

it is a 2" to 2.5" step coupler. if this turns into a habitual weak point, i will get another mandrel 90* and add it to the IC pipe, using one straight coupler at the turbo.

I autox'd the shadow today. My first autox. I placed dead last in stock mod, but I was the only one there with an old 'beater' car. I did improve my time on every run though. Also had fun. I totally forgot the camera, so hopefully someone at the event was taking pics and maybe got some video.

for the guys at RPS.

talked to them this morning, and they are gonna ship me a new coupler, no questions asked. apparently they have a new design for this specific coupler that i am told will not have any more issues

Well at least it was only minor carnage.

A hole in a coupler is better than a hole in a piston.

do it up chuck! id like to see the 83 gettin put thru some paces.

i also just talked to one of the guys at a local header builder. he says he has 2.5" 90's on a 2" CLR...i didnt know that was even possible. he is gonna bring one by so i can look at it. i might start buildin a hard pipe turbo outlet in case i do have this issue again.

results are up, time for some time comparisons.

FTD in the school was 56.002
my best raw was 59.520(+2)
my best with cones was a 60.449(quickest clean run)
10th quick of 26 people

FTD at the event(same course) was 51.830
49 partints in the event. if i had run my best official time from the school during the event, i would have placed 33rd of 50 overall.

best time in my class(SM) for the event was 54.255 which was good for 5th overall.
if i had run the event with my best official school time i would have placed 7th of 9 in SM.

Pretty cool to see "THUNDERBIRD" mixed in with all of those "sports cars".

thanks. hopefully with some more seat time, and some better tires next year, ill be able to put this thing a lil higher on the list. either way, im having a blast! :D
