87 bird New swap plans underway...

All the pictures are in black and white for some reason. This camera has a bunch of filters and I guess I forgot to turn them off.

Its got the full digital dash, ATC or whatever its called, power locks, mirrors and seats, poppers for the fuel cap and trunk and keyless entry key pad. It lights up, but I haven't crawled into the trunk to figure out what the code is yes.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Do you have a trunk lid to swap onto this car?It needs some help, but it's way better than the Sport was when I got it.The car looks like a solid foundation for a really nice car when you get it how you want it.Take your time, collect the parts you need when you can,and it'll be great.I'll have a lock and keys for the trunk (and glove box) when i get the Sport painted in a couple of weeks or so.

I do have a trunk lid to swap but no key/lock. The old trunk lid is also green... so I may have to junk yard it. I need two new tires for the rear, possibly a new rim, and power steering pump/lines.

Well,if you can wait, you can have my locks and keys (matching set of locks for the glove box and trunk) for free if you aren't in a big hurry.I have new NOS locks for the Sport.I'll be glad to donate to the cause. There's nothing wrong with them except the trunk lock is  silver instead of black.I don't think the power steering pump lines are that expensive.I bought mine new from Autozone.I didn't want used lines. The return line is just good quality hose.i wish you were closer,I have nearly 3 sets of wheels out back about to go to the syard after paint.I'm using 4 of them to take it to the paint shop. There's a set of turbines and a set of 14 inch wheels (aftermarket) with like new tires.I think they are 14 inchers about the size of the factory 14 inch steel wheels.Anyway,I'm easy to find if you need any help.

Thanks for the offer. I need to find some stock h.o. manifolds for exhaust and intake. Then I'll have a full h.o. motor minus cam and injectors. And I would finally be able to use that h-pipe you sent me forever ago. Car definately needs to be cleaned inside and out. I took it around the block, and it really dosen't have the power I think it should. I can chirp em, but thats it. I've had a v-6 cougar that felt about the same.

I don't, but I'm not 100% sure I want to swap it out. I may just do all the upgrades minus the cam just to say its an S.O. We'll see this summer when I swap the new engine out from the car i'm getting rid of now.

Well the car past emissions and only failed on taillights, and power steering. The taillights had one or two bulbs out, and the 3rd brake light. I was surprised. I took it to a ler shop, and they did a  good job checking everything. After looking at the rim I thought was bent, it was just the hubcaps that someone tried to force off. Tomorrow, I'm gonna start pulling parts, and swap out the lines on the power steering.

It actually did really good on emissions. Time to finialize my idle and start swapping stuff out. The engine will stay for now, and I'll prolly get everything to do the H.O. swap this summer.

Well, its not a line on the power steering thats bad, but the power steering rack. I pulled one out of a 92 mustang and lined in up under the car. I'm sure its close enough to work. It actually looks almost the exact same. Just more threads on the tie rod ends on the bird rack. Doing the swap either Friday night, or Saturday morning. Also, I threw in a new water pump, radiator and hoses. Now the car doesn't get above the second bar on the digital dash. I think whoever had it before me took the thermostat out and just dumped water in it every day. I'll probably do this in the next week or two. As fun as it is only getting room temperature heat when its 18 degrees in the morning. The car also idle's kinda funny no matter what I do. I've tried three TPS's. It also stumbles for a second from idle at a light. It has a H.O. sized throttle body on it, so I think it may have something to do with that..
The spout was also pulled out and thats why the car didn't seem to have the power it should. I stuck a wire in there for now, and its definitely a lot peppier. I need to get the doors apart and fix the passenger side window, and the drivers side door handle and power lock. I may re-key the car too. I also need either a new trunk lid, or at least a new lock to get me by for now. At least I have a white car, so finding the "right" color shouldn't be an issue. It just bugs me that the lock was broken out. The trunk has a popper inside the glove box. So it must have either jammed, or someone broke into it.

I'm starting to hate who ever had this car before me

I really like this car overall though. Way to many power options, but I haven't thought once the entire time I was driving it, that it isn't going to start or leave me stranded.

I have some idea's for tax time. After I swap in the new motor, the only thing the car will need mechanically is the tranny, then it will be almost brand new, minus suspension. I'm thinking about going t-5. I'd like to go t-56, but the money isn't there this year. I'll probably pull one out of a 5.0 car, then get it rebuilt. So here's my check list for this winter.

5.0 block. Forged pistons with valve reliefs. Needs a new water pump, and might do the head gaskets again. Just in case. If I end up going full H.O., I might as  well while I have it all ripped apart. I will for sure be doing the H.O top end minus cam. I'll also have the H-pipe and shorty's hanging around. So that may work its way in as well.

T-5? Not 100% on this, but I'll have around $1000 to do it. I would need the tranny, clutch/pressure plate, cable, center console, and pedal swap. I could get all of the above and throw it on the tranny and bolt it up to my new motor while I wait on time to do it. I would likely do a junkyard adventure then get it rebuilt. And for it to warm up outside.

7.5 3.73 rear? I am seriously considering this. I will not be making a ton of power. And if it does go out, I'll have my old rear ready to go in, or I could throw in a 8.8 later down the road. I would like to go with quad shocks, just because I can, but I would have to either swap the axle housing out or weld on the bracket. So I may not. On the plus side, I could just throw in the new rear, and gain traction lock. It came out of a 84? turbo diesel mark7. The body was in great shape, so hopefully the traction lock will be good on it. Also, it has stock mustang width axle's, So I could throw in any mustang axle's and have more room if I ever upgrade the tires.

5-lug? I would like the throw in a mark 7 brake setup with 87-88 tc spindle's. I think it would be the best overall swap. It would have slightly bigger brakes, bigger calipers, and I could use a mark 7 setup in the rear for an e-brake with no modifications I believe. The only problem, would be I would need new rims. I think they have to be 15 or 16 inch to clear the brakes.

I'm also planning on slightly better then the 195/60's that I got on the back. I fixed my timing, and now it'll smoke em around a corner with only 1/4 throttle. And thats with an S.O. Not sure what I'm gonna go with here.

I'd also like to go with a larger fuel pump and new fuel pressure regulator. But I guess I'll have to see how much I'll have left over at tax time.

I'll likely end up stretching this list for a couple of years, but I'm not going to let this car go. The body is in okay shape, with no viable rust. I'd like to get under it and clean it up a little just in case, but this car will be a driver. The mistake I've made with my cars up to this point is not fixing everything right, and leaving it on the side of the road or in someones garage. I won't be doing that this time.

I hate going from a night to day shift in the middle of the week. I have to much time I have to be quite and think about my car.
