Comments on Yakima/Thule/Saris roof racks wanted

I've grown tired of my trunk mounted bike rack messing up the paint and trying to stuff a wheelless bicycle into the rear seat of my T-bird.
I looked online and found Yakima, Thule, and Saris roof racks fit my car. Does anybody have one of these racks? If so, can you give me your impressions of them? i.e. wind noise, fit, etc.

I can't see how they'd fit a Tbird very well without causing some sort of leakage at the top of the door.

I saw a 84-86 white cat on Erics site long time ago (before he reset the photos) w/ a roof rack, I forgot who's cat was that

Yeah, my main worry is wind noise/water leakage. I've been in some cars that sound like a banshee came installed with the roof rack.

Dosen't some racks come with a spoiler on the front?  (I wonder if that helps with noise reduction)

Why not get a fixed frame bike carrier.

Put one on my Taurus to carry the bikes, works great!  You have to have a two inch hitch mounted, but the added weight isn't really noticeable.  You won't have to worry about it rubbing paint or causing any unnecessary leaks.

Not really the case on a Tbird...the wind noise would come from the top of the door seal not being able to close all the way.  The deflectors only help somewhat.

That's why I'm glad I have the truck.  I always used to hate tossing the dirty mountain bike in the back of the car (always hated the trunk racks and I was not going to run around w/ a roof rack all the ed time).

The Reese hitch is another idea.  Not fond of that option myself though.

i agree, get a hitch, and that. then you can tow stuff if need be, and you dont drill holes in your body. not to mension you cant realy see the hitch like a roof rack. my gf's dad has on for their bikes and they do work great, any noise generated by the bike is behind the car so their quiet to.
