Might be trading the Cougar

For another cougar.

A family friend buys cars and fixes them. He is interested in my 88' and a 97 Grand Prix I have.

He wants to trade for a 93' Cougar XR7 5.0 he has.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

WTF is up with that! You are trading 2 cars for one! That must be the nicest 93 cougar XR7. I bought my 94 XR7 for $200. Yes I had to do some body work to it but I have seen many nice ones go for cheap. Keep the 88 it is so much more of a car.

Well..

The Grand Prix has 153k. It used to be my pride and joy! It was vandalized about a year and a half ago and I lost interest in it. The SOB that messed with my car only cut some wires under the hood so it's not all that serious and I have repaired that anyways. It needs a CV axle and a  blower motor (heat/ac) which I have waiting to go in. I have pics that I will post in the thread. Mind you the car is not quite as nice as in the pics that are from 2002. It's still got life and "could" look nice again but bottom line is, it will need a paint job to regain it's glory again LOL.

I am quickly discovering that the 88' (134k) Cougar is on the borderline of something that I really dont want to undertake. When I did the valve cover gaskets, I found 5 years worth of sludge under the covers, on the rockers, heads, ect. I can only imagine what the lifter valley and oil pan look like. Then again, some engine/sludge chems and a few oil changes and that issue could probly be taken care of. The body is "ok" but again.. paint job+ some very minor cancer repair.

The 93 has 113k. The interior is 99.9% perfect. Leather, CD/CASS Moonroof ect. The body (white) is pretty nice. One sore spot is the lower rocker panels near the front of the rear wheel well. Both sides have some cancer issues. Severe as being able to put a finger up into the metal. You can not see it from street level but if you get under the car, it's evident. I dont know if the MN12s had issues with that but it is a concern. Honestly, I'd have to wheel the car to really know for sure but it could use a paint job to make it perfect. It drives great and very strong.

Factoring everything though.. I am really having second thoughts. Between the attachment I have with the Grand Prix... (Got married in it, honeymoon driver, brought my son home in it when he was born, been across the country in it ect) and the fact that I'd be giving two cars for one. I really dont know if it's what I wanna do. I guess if I have this much doubt, it's probly not the right thing to do.

I am just hooked on that 5.0 HO and the oppertunity to have a V-8 toy again thats not a total fixer upper. I could get it tomorrow and drive it anywhere. I can not say that about the two I might trade.

What do ya'll think?? I totally respect your input on this.

Here is a link to pics from my GP clubs web page.

I dont have any of the 88' cougar as of yet.

For reference, he would sell the 93' for $2200 outright.
