Gas Smell Under Acceleration

If I step on the gas hard, to get in front of someone, I smell gas. Its not for a long time, its a quick scent. Seeing the exhaust is behind me, I wouldn't think I should smell it. Just thought I would ask if anyone else has the same thing. I don't think I'm leaking anywhere, because when I check the ground around the car there is no scent of  gas, or any leakage.

Any Suggestions?

You might check the charcoal canister, and while the engine is running, fuel rail, injectors and such

Well we will guess your car is not carbed.
Do you see a puff of black smoke behind you when you get on it?
Pull plugs out and see if there tan brown or black.
I have a stang thats set up to run a tad bit fat and you can smell fuel every time i punch it.

So could be a tune prob or slight leak.
good luck

Is a gas smell normal if you have a carbed engine?  I have noticed a little bit of gas or exhaust smell on my bird... I only have 500 miles on the new 351 engine, and the shop wants to see it for the next oil change to double check all's tight, etc.  So I do not know if I should bring it up or not when it is in there.  I have checked for exhaust leaks but did not see anything.

The cannister is this boxy looking container (plastic) mounted on the passenger side, in front of the engine, approximately directly below the air filter box you see in the engine compartment.
