Somebody Please Help Me!!!

so here's my problem. i swapped my carpet today, put the black carpet from my 93 cougar into my 95 gray interior cougar. the car ran just fine last night no problems. when i finished reinstalling the seats and center console, the car doesn't even try to start. the pump engages but the starter doesn't even click or whine. did i screw something up under the carpet or center console or is it just an odd coincidence that something else died the same day?

retrace your steps,, your gut instinct is right,,

something is either pinched and grounding out or not connected.

Did you leave the door open while you were doing the carpet? You might have drained the battery.

no i didn't leave the doors open. i opened both windows and the sunroof so i could close the doors and not get too hot. and the radio still runs fine too.

and i don't think that would be it cuz everything else is fine but the starter doesn't even attempt to engage.

It takes A LOT more amperage to start a car then to run a radio, turn on a fuel pump ect ect.

Check the battery voltage at the battery and go from there.

it's in the shop and he thinks it's the neutral safety switch. so first thing tomorrow morning, he's gonna swap that (or just bypass the switch) and see if that fixes it. hopefully i get my baby back tomorrow after work.

i was thinking along the same line but not actually anything outside the pen 15pit.

Its got to be something inside the car,,,, do you have to step on the brake in order to start the car?

is there a center console shifter,, and if so, the range selector harness will also groom along the hump there as well.

this has got to be something simple.

Turn the key to run. Make sure the car is in Park. Take a screw driver and jump the solenoid on the fender (Follow the + cable from the battery to the solenoid, remove the small push on connector, and short the + cable to the small connector).  If it cranks and starts, you have a starting circuit issue.  Check the cable that goes into the transmission hump.

I don't know if your year has the revised starting switch.  There kinda known for falling apart.  You may have bumped it while working on the carpet.

so he was right about it being the neutral safety switch and fixed it and told me it was all fixed and ready to go. i get there and it struggles to go 2 miles an hour! so i check the engine codes and now suddenly i have 3 codes coming from my transmission. i called him on it and he claimed they did nothing that would cause that and it's my word against his so i am basically :nannerbang: ed everybody i talk to from now on that so much as needs a filter change will get steered away from that deuchebag!

so i got my car back from the SECOND shop that fixed the tranny codes and he said it was some broken wiring. still extremely suspicious of the first shop but i can't prove anything so oh well. but now my speedo doesn't work either. :beatyoass: but at least the car is mobile, i can get a guy at work to find my speedo problem and fix it for free.
