:giggle: Ya i hear that i work as a tech at a chyrsler dealer and we have one gut with an 87 long box 3.9l dakota that just won't let it go and the thing could be pushed faster than it drives :grinno:
And i realize some birds must die,it sucks i almost cried when i had to s my old bird due to rust(was well stripped by me before hand)i had spent 800cdn to replace the front rotted frame rails only to find out afterwards when the rear end shifted that the rear fram and torgue boxes were even worse.
After hearing the 3000.00cdn price tag to re fab a new rear frame i figured it was time to look for a new one and thank god i did as now my 87 mint no rust 5.0ho converted TC was a find i never would have found had i not been looking.
And after 100s of hr's in swap work making her just like my last bird(less the rust :rollin:) i would never sell her no matter the $ figure.
However being partial to black bird's seeing this one from before being parted to now sitting on it's frame really sucks but i guess there's not much i can due other than to wish i could do this to that guy :flame:  :giggle:

I can relate to the rusty bird syndrome. I had to sell my '87 Sport due to rust. Ther frame and floor were perfect, but the rear quarters, rockers, doors and fenders were all ROTTEN. It was a big shame because the car only had 140,000km on it (85,000 miles) and it had all the goodies: Full digital, trac-lok rear, floor shift, auto climate control, dual power seats, etc. I did start to fix it up (put a TC hood on it, two brand new fenders) but in the end I had to say goodbye. I didn't part it out, though, I sold it whole and the guy I sold it to fixed it up and was still driving it as of last summer.

Also like you I ended up better off. It took two years but I found a MINT 1988 5.0 'Bird with only 47,000 miles on it. It didn't have the Sport goodies, and it didn't look as good in white as the Sport did in silver, but it is a far better car. I've taken care of some of the lack of options (I've installed a TC cluster, full console, 10-holes, fog lights, sequencers and stereo system) and I'm even soon gonna be adding some neat stuff the Sport never had (Tripminder, overhead console with digital compass and temp, digital bar graph gauge trio for volts, tranny temp and tranny oil pressure, LED tail lights). It's a far superior car to the old Sport, but I still miss that Sport...

5.0 car with white exterior, light gray vynil interior.  Standard 2- radio, no casette, A/C, Cruise, Tilt, Sunroof, Full-Size spare, no power trunk or gas door release, a SINGLE driver's side manual mirror, it had a blank out plate over the passenger's side, it had crank windows, too.  The place where all the switches usually go in the center console was empty.  Didn't even have a light in the center console compartment or the glove box.

My bird is my daily driver right now but i think since ,in such nice condition with only 80 000km's on it i think i'm gonna park it winters and get a beat up bird or cat for next winter.
There's a guy here in the oakville area that has a used car lot and has been trying to sell this 86 t-bird 3.8l with a digital dash and only 163 000km's on it for 500 bucks for like a year, always been curious to stop in and look at it.
As for my last bird, any and all salvaged parts that were needed for my 5.0ho swap were taken along with my mint replaced front fenders, headlamps, tails etc.
It was just an empty shell when it went to bird heaven.

Sold my first Cougar (red 87 with red interior V6) back to my stepfather who was the original owner (had to sell it for $1 otherwise NY will hit you with a gift tax).  He drove it for amother year or so then soldit to this guy he knew who wrecked it bout three months after that.  Darn shame.  All original paint, no rust, no scratches, spotless interior  (Interior was real dirty, but undamaged when i sold it back.  My mother used SOMETHING to clean it and it looked like it did in the showroom.  Still don't know what she used...)  I often wonder what a red interior would look like in a black cougar.  If I had thought about it back then I coulda swapped in the red for free.

My black TC has red interior, always loved the red interior in the TC.
Very clean no fading, had window tint on it when i bought it and it saved the seats from the uv rays,i'll post some pics if i can get around to it.
Same interior as a loaded xr7.
Wonder why they don't have red interiors in cars any more?
