Manual Mirror to Electric mirror guts swap?

Anybody know if a person can take a manual mirror, take the guts out, and insert the guts from an electric mirror?

I have a manual one in perfect shape.... my electric is a bit knarly.

Hmmm...I have never owned a manual mirror so I'm not sure. I would hope that Ford used the same housings for manual and electric mirrors. If that's the case then it can probably be done.

The hardest parts of any mirror to get to are the the 3 screws that hold the mirror pivot to the housing. It takes a lot of tilting and juuuuuussstt the right Philips screwdriver to get in there. If the manual and electric mirrors both use the same 3-screw mount then you're halfway there. The only thing left would be an extra hole in the housing to allow the wiring in...and that's probably already there allowing the cable in to move the mirror on the manual one.

So...if things are like this, then it's doable.
