Re: Electric fan question.... Reply #2 – March 06, 2005, 09:49:10 PM Go to http://www.haydenauto.com and click on their catalog section. You can either go with hayden or imperial, whichever you choose, they're the same company. The wiring on my fan is Imperial, but the fan is Hayden. I can personally vouch for the ease of installation. Also, in the catalog section, there are a couple of pages with your specific vehicle application and what fan(s) you should purchase. I think it's on page 97 or 98 for the thunderbird application, not sure on the cougar, but it will be the same either way. Hayden fans also carry a lifetime warranty, half the reason I went with them over a junkyard TC fan setup. Quote Selected

Re: Electric fan question.... Reply #4 – March 06, 2005, 09:55:25 PM from what i remember the SN-95 fan pulls about 3800 cfm and the Mark VIII pulls even more. Check these guys out. http://www.dccontrol.com/ They sell controllers and even fan kits. Controller negates the need for a high output alternator. Though you can still get one if you like. Re: Electric fan question.... Reply #6 – March 07, 2005, 12:55:00 PM The most popular electric fans over on the corral are the Mark VIII, Taurus/Sable/Continental, Thunderbird/Cougar, SN95, Ramcharger, and Spal. The Mark VIII and Thunderbird fans pull the most CFM. They both use the same shroud and fan diameter but have different motors. The 93-96 Mark VIII fans have a steeper fan pitch, which keep its rpms down compared to later Mark VIII fans and the Thunderbird fans. The downside to this is that the later Mark VIII/Thunderbird fans are more efficient once you place a radiator upstream of the fan. Link The MarkVIII/Tbird fan shrouds must be trimmed and the radiator must be repositioned in order to fit with a V8. All of the other fans fit without modifications unless you have a supercharger. As mentioned before, get a DC Control unit. It costs more than a relay or two, but negates the need for a 130A alternator and will prolong fan life. FYI, the 3516 is a Taurus fan and the 3018 is a Thunderbird fan. Many people think the 3018 is a Mark VIII, but it isn't.The black magic is another option, but it has a bad reputation for not doing its job and ping out at the most inopportune times.Junkyard list:Mark VIII '93-'98 4.6 (V)Thunderbird/Cougar '94-'97 3.8/4.6 (4/W)Taurus/Sable '89-'95 3.8 (4)Continental '90-'94 3.8 (4) Quote Selected
