So, how about that Indy Car thing-a-ma-jig?

Well, I haven't seen or heard much mention of it, so I figured i'd start a conversation on it. For those who have been hiding under a rock , here's a little summary of the season thus far:

February - March: The heads of Indy Car and Champ Car "finally" get their heads out of their collective butts and unify the series (though definitely on a last minute time schedule).

3 weeks ago: 25 cars start the season off at Homestead Miami, Champ Car guys get a baptism by fire.

2 weeks ago: One of those Champ Car guys with a "BIG" name wins his first race, underneath the IRL banner no less. To make it even better he didn't even race the week prior. Also it made those who predicted a slow catch-up phase for transitional drivers eat crow.

This weekend: The hits kept coming. Start with the first woman to ever win a major auto racing event and follow it up with the Champ Car finale in Long Beach.

As for my take, this is absolutely one of the best seasons of any form of racing that I can remember. Things are definitely looking up in regards to bringing Indy Car back to something that somewhat resembles the sport back in it's hey. I am wicked stoked that I already have my ticket for the Indy 500 (even more so that I get renewal rights on it indefinitely!).

So how about you guy's (and gal's ;)  )

I'm gonna take isue with this one. Not to undermine Danica's acheivment, I've been saying since she joined Rahal in Formula Atlantic that she was gonna be a winner. But there have been other women win "major motersports events". Unless you consider the NHRA and IHRA to be minor series, you would have Shirley Muldowney, Melanie Troxel, Angel Seeling-Savoie-Sampay, Shelley Anderson and a several others as winners. In World Rally back in the 80's Michelle Mouton had several victories and I believe still holds a record or two at Pikes Peak. There was also a woman who won a Formula One Grand Prix in the 70s. Granted it was a non-championship race but an F1 win nonetheless. Can't remember for sure but I'm thinking it was Desiree Wilson though I'm likely way wrong.

Still, Danica's achievement is worthy of all the occolades she recieves and I think she has handled it well and kept things in perspective. I also think she truly difined herself as a real racer on Wind Tunnel tonight when she answered on of Dave's tired old questions by saying that while the win is important it's the next race that's her focus now.

Everyone has been saying the pressure is off now, but I think the pressure will always be there. There are those who say her win is less important because it was fuel strategy that won her the race. They apparently don't understand that it's the driver that makes the fuel strategy work. It's the driver who has to have the patience and determination to keep the foot out of the throttle a little when the head is saying push harder. The crew chief may come up with the strategy but it's the driver that puts it into effect and makes it work. She did a  fine job.

Same goes for Graham Rahal 2 weeks ago. There was a 19 year old kid who drove with all the skill and agression as his father and kept his cool under pressure better than most of the veterans. He deserved that win.

At first, I thought Danica was another Sarah Fisher.  But the more she raced, the more respect I gave her.  She consistently finished in the Top 10 last year.  I expected her to win soon.  It doesn't make me respect her more.  In her own eyes, she's just a race car driver.

What? Another woman who could hand you your ass behind the wheel?

If they didn't have any talent, they wouldn't be there.

Except that Danica has a good sponsor. Where as Sara Fisher had to do it all by her self with little help from a sponsor. I'd bet that if fisher had the backing that Danica has she would amaze you just as much if not more.

All this the monday before I head to the races at Kansas Speedway. This coming weekend I'm gonna see the Oreilly's 250 Craftsman Truck race and on Sun we will be watching the IRL. Woot Woot.

Good for them. They may be able to give NASCAR a run for it's money finally (who am I kidding?).

I know this much. This super subliminal photo will now be a favourite for every guy out there who bought Patrick's SI/FHM issue. I just wonder if they'll know why.

I never said she didn't have talent.  She just couldn't ever "put it on paper".
