In all my years of experience I have never seen the side moldings on our cars save any dings whatsoever.

Most newer cars are taller and higher and it doesn't do much good.  But if you happen to park next to another Ford/Merc from the day, it's all good.

I'm still trying to figure out the asthetics of blending the bumper cover rub strip area into the side of the car without rub strips.  Any suggestions?

I have done a lot of looking at other people's rides in preparaton for having my car painted once I put on my ground effects.  I found a lot of good pics at cardomain.

The Nascar nose had the rub strip, as I assume there was thought at Ford to sell it OTC. The  Cup cars I have examined appeared to have a blob of bondo roughly sculpted into a tapering wedge from the bumpercover/nose to the wheel arch.
From the pics you guys have posted, I think it looks fine to end it at the B/C. Or at the wheelwell.

I was thinking about tpuppies the top and bottom edges of the rub strip on the bumper covers so that it tapered down eventually to be flush with the sheetmetal.

If I do that, then the question is how to paint it so that it doesn't look goofy?
