idleing to low to run. April 17, 2008, 03:37:17 PM so we're haveing a problem with the computer idleing the car to low to run as in it dies.when i first start it it runs fine but the rpms start to drop then it dies .could it be possible that becuase it doesnt have o2 sensors thats why its dying?the reason it doesnt have the o2 sensors is we cant find the right harness for the sensors we have . car is the one in my sig. Is this thing still CFI???Checked any codes or the base idle, how much vacuum is it pulling at idle??? What cam is in it??? Quote Selected

As for the 02s, I lengthened mine by using heat shrink tubing, solder, Teflon wire, and some zip ties to keep them off the exhaust. I agree with TC50. Do the normal things, Set your TP, base idle, and search for vacuum leaks. Quote Selected

idleing to low to run. Reply #7 – April 18, 2008, 04:47:55 PM IF it has a SO 15426378 firing order, you'll likely be better off running it on a SO EEC... As Paul mentioned the 19lb inj are too much but can be used, if you inst a adjustable fuel pressure regulator and cut the pressure back to 33-35lbs... No, I don't suppose you have a fuel pressure gage either, so now you're shopping for fuel and vac gages and a code reader... BTW you can get by without the reader, but you'd need to learn the procedure for checking codes using a meter or test light(I'm assuming the '85 does not have a working Check Engine Light)... But then you probably don't have those either, so you're gonna have to park it till you scrounge up some test equipment... Sorry that's the cold hard facts... Quote Selected

idleing to low to run. Reply #9 – April 19, 2008, 09:19:07 AM Concentrate on the vaccum gage, IF the engine won't pull at least 16" of vac, at 650 rpms, it will never run correctly on a SD EEC of any type... Of course spark plug wiring and timing must be correct to judge amount of vacuum... Check Places like Harbor Freight for the vac gauge and possibly the code reader... I know Equuis is marketing a inexpensive EEC-IV code reader for about $30, and a vac gauge should cost half of that... The fuel pressure gauge setup for a Stang would be fine, maybe you can find one of those and an adj regulator(I may have one) form the Stang crowd... I defiantly have a '87 SO EEC... Quote Selected
