Well imagine a Hemi powered Mustang..

Either way none of our big three will go out of business.  The government just wont let it happen.  They loaned millions to Lee Iacocca to save Chrysler years ago.

I don't see it happening, but if it did it'd probably be more like a "Cerburus breaks up Chrysler, Ford buys the Jeep brand" kind of thing. Really, the Jeep name and the Hemi V8 engine are about the only bright points for Chrysler, and with Ford already having invested a buttload of money into the new Hurricane/Boss/Whatever V8 coming in a few years I can't see them dumping it and picking the Hemi up. The Jeep brand name, however, would help Ford better compete with GM's Hummer.

There's otherwise just too much product overlap, and Chrysler just doesn't bring much to the table. The Fusion is superior to the Sebring, the Focus, as old as it is, is superior to the Calibre, the F-series trucks are superior to the Ram, et cetera. The Ranger is old and obsolete but the Dakota is a truck without a market (and a shiznitty one at that - my father's 2005 Dakota 4X4 V8 is the biggest pile of  I've ever seen anyone spend $35k on). The minivans might be somewhat successful, but that is a shrinking market as well. The LX cars are superior to the Panthers, granted, but the LX cars were hot for about 15 minutes, and their relevance will soon fade even further with the 35MPG CAFE requirements. Ford has already announced a FWD/AWD based replacement for the Town Car, and it'd be foolish to think there won't be a Ford-badged version (perhaps another go at the Taurus name?). This new car may make RWD purists cringe, but with the new 3.7 Duratec (and a promised turbocharged version) it'll be superior to the Town Car in virtually every way, and will better help Ford meet the 35MPG requirement. Also, if Ford wants to build a RWD car it only need look to Oz to find a platform (and it would probably take a runaway successful G8 sedan to convince Ford to do so) - it certainly doesn't need to buy Chrysler.

If I were to guess Chrysler's future I'd foretell Canada's Magna International taking another stab at ownership - they were one of the suitors before Cerberus emerged victorious.

The only thing I can disagree with is the trucks. I have had a many F series trucks but gave up on them after to many disapointments with the powerstroke. My current 03 Dodge ram 2500 cummins has been  a better truck than any of my Ford trucks except for my 00 Ranger. That Ranger was perfect.

Our 01 Ram 1500 sport with the 360 has near 180k on it with out any major failures. Just brakes/belts/hoses.

Don't bet on it. Remember, Ford and GM asked the Govt. to help them out in 2005, and Bush said 'Not a chance'. And it would take Billions, this time around. Something the US Govt. doesn't have on hand to save a drowning car company who has stopped trying.

There is not one fact in that article to lead anyone to believe this could happen. The entire thing is speculation, and milling a rumour to get more people to read your blog is akin to the work of the National Enquirer. Cerberus will dismantle the company and sell off its bits before you see the Chrysler heads talking 'merge' again. I saw bad news the moment a private investors group bought the company.

Anyway, don't get up in arms over a self-spun rumour on a blog. Especially one that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Honestly, Ford just dumped Land Rover, Aston Martin, and recently tried to unload Volvo (without success). They are in no position to buy into more brands, much less ones that are crumbling under their own weight.

And a Ford Jeep would put the Jeep name under, IMO. Being a GM/Chrysler(now /Mitsubishi) cross-breed was hard enough on the brand.

Chrysler and ford are in enough trouble separate why in the hell would they merge? If this happened i would have to move over to GM and i guess my next car would be a Colbolt SS.

I could care less what they do.  It's not like I'm looking at buying a new car anyway.

Funny that Cerberus says they were duped by Daimler into believing they were buying a up and coming company.  Everyone knows differently.

Well put.  I wouldn't be looking for a 5.0L fox if there was a new car I was interested in.  I'm pretty well convinced that I need to build the car I want to suit my desires.
