5.0 HO swap but coolant gauge not working right

I've done the 5.0 HO swap on '85 Elan and the temperature gauge in my fully digital dash does not operate properly.  I've tested the gauge itself and it's good.  My guess is that because the old 5.0 SO had a different type of sender than the 5.0 HO; the SO has two wires(image left), whereas the HO has only one(image right).  Has anyone encountered and resolved this problem before?

Thanks.

Neither of those senders is right for the full digi dash. The connector on the end should look similar to the sefi engine coolant temp sensor on the heater pipe. I'd go take a pic of mine for you but it's 12:30 a.m. and dark out in the garage:D  I *think* that the Mark VII with a digi dash uses the same sender......

Soon after the swap, I got rid of the 5.0 SO paperweight.  So I can't  look to determine precisely which sender it is, but I do believe it's a two wire.  The pics I've attached were borrowed from an online auto parts catalog.
