I'd say the Z71 Vette fills the GT2 spot now with it's uprated suspension and 436HP.

I'd say this is the GT-2, since you can't get an AWD Vette.

THe downside is that this ZR-1 may perhaps make the Corvette into an even more upscale marquis than it had already become as of late.  Gone are the days when the wrench turner who worked at the corner station could afford one.

That wrench turner back in the day could afford a small-block Corvette, but never the L-88. A track worthy Vette for those with the extra money isn't a new idea. It's just been a while. Remember how expensive the first ZR1 was?

Correct.  Now the base model is out of reach as well though....

Good point. It's still an amazing value when compared to other sports cars around the world, but not compared to the average middle-class family car.
