For all you ford lovers........ Reply #2 – November 20, 2007, 11:45:41 AM Well here at the Jaguar dealership this is our best (FORD) we have. All aluminum body, 32 valve supercharged V-8 , Variable valve timing, 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters. a really nice car. even comes standard with smart keys too. It lays down approx. 470 Horsepower. I do love fords, but wanted to work on the higher and much faster end of fords. :D Quote Selected
Hehehehe Reply #3 – November 20, 2007, 02:45:59 PM Seeing that Jag..sorta reminds me of the old Cobra Daytona coupes. All that's missing is the ducktail spoiler, and a white stripe...What kinda power does that RX8 make, Aerobird? Quote Selected
Hehehehe Reply #4 – November 20, 2007, 02:52:53 PM Only 240ish BHP. They're kinda slow, but they rule the roost in B Stock in SCCA auto-crossing right now. There's more then one turbo/blower kit making 300+ rwhp as well, but I kinda like n/a rotaries. A good header/exhaust along with a CAI and tune picks up 30-40 HP on them without hurting anything. Expect high 14's stock and maybe high 13's with the n/a stuff. The boosted guys are all 12's and 11's.It's no drag racer, but it does have perfect 50/50 weight distribution and a 9,000 RPM redline. Not to mention the 4 doors and comfortable seats and el cheapo insurance.I'll have the 84 Bird to drag race, so this would be a DD/auto-x car. I can't argue with the price either! Quote Selected
Hehehehe Reply #5 – November 20, 2007, 03:36:00 PM Not bad. I like the stock RX8 wheels though. Quote Selected
Hehehehe Reply #7 – November 20, 2007, 06:26:33 PM That they do. Technically it's still a Ford though (Ford bought majority control of Mazda in 1993) so I do have that going for me Don't forget I'm still building the 84 into a drag car with John. This is a DD/auto-x/occasional track time car. So torque isn't as important as insurance, access, trunk space, etc.Don't forget they do weigh less then 2800 Lbs! So adding a few bolt-ons for 30HP and 20 Ft Lbs is like adding 50HP and 40 Ft Lbs to a TC! Quote Selected
Hehehehe Reply #8 – November 20, 2007, 07:11:55 PM they had some problems with the first rx-8s that mazda offered to buy them back. i heard they goobled oil.i drove one back when they first came out(during a rev it up mazda event) handled nice but had no guts imo Quote Selected
Hehehehe Reply #9 – November 21, 2007, 01:28:56 PM Nice, just make sure you do ALL your maintenance on time or bye bye apex seals. But I'm sure you knew that Quote Selected
I work for Mazda Reply #10 – November 21, 2007, 01:59:46 PM Ok the rx8's are cool cars, but not a good daily driver. You realy HAVE to beat on them or you will be buying a new engine. In the past 4 months I have seen 10+ get new motors. Also they are designed to use oil. The inject it into the combustion aria. It is the only way to oil the rotor. The main problem they have is carbon buildup. When this hapens its new motor time. This can be delayed by using alot of revs, and driving the piss out of it. but if you drive it easy it wont last.not something you realy want to use to run to the store with. Every time you start it up it has to reach operating temp before you shut it back off. I'd prefer a speed6 or speed3. But thats just me. Quote Selected
Hehehehe Reply #11 – November 21, 2007, 04:41:54 PM Oh believe me, I'm going to beat the ever living out of this car...I've owned rotaries before. They're easier to maintain then 2.3T Fords! Quote Selected
