.... the horrible engine problems that the earlier ones had....

In the interest of accuracy and for anyone that may turn this thread up later maybe you should elaborate on that?

As far as I know, the closest thing to engine problems they had was some of the 95s turn up with broken valve springs which I suspect is a bad batch of parts. Many of the Gen 1 owners are approaching or past 200k (my 96 has 170k) and there's one in Texas that went almost 300k and raced it in the 1/8 mile most Friday nights. In fact the engine was so reliable Ford stole it to put in the 96 Cobra and a (slight) variation of it remains there in the current models. There are more than a few Mustang GTs running around with Mark engines or heads transplanted into them too.

No we don't count the truck.

i miss my mark viii. i still say its one of fords best cars. of course, i never had any trouble with mine realy. as far as troublesome engines, they are very tough engines. i beat the snot out of mine and it never skipped a beat. running premium (93) was a little annoying but you get used to it. i have to run it in halfbreed cobra.

anyway, the 93 mark viiis are the fastest and the 97-98s are the slowest of them all. biggest engine change is the different intake and a switch to COP. the trannies in all of them have their issues that can be addressed with certain mods. keep it in the back of your mind though, its probably not the best car to buy if you dont like to tinker. they are getting kind of on the old side and have a ton of  in em'. parts can be pricey as well.

Well it looks like I'm probibly going to be getting a mark, yay, and selling my cat, ARGH.  I can't afford two cars right now and I really want something newer and nicer.  I love my cat and will miss it dearly but I can always get another one later.

Honda owners are like rabbits......they hide under your shed during the winter and then 30 of them come popping out around spring.

I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it. Check out markviii.org, lincolnsonline.com, and lincolnsclub.org after you buy it. Lots of good info and people at all three sites.
