Cardomain is teh sux!!!

Went to three different pages on cardomain yesterday and got the same beginnings of Malware/Spyware/Trojan goodieness that I contracted a few months ago. It required a whole friggin weekend to fix! That stoopid popup (more like takeover) window that tells you, you need protection of spyware now, or something along those lines... Click Here! And no matter where you click it installs and misery follows. I have to do a hard shutdown to avoid it now.

Trend Micro will find them, Quarantine, but they just regenerate over and over again. Never ending circle.

It was basically Winfixer x Eleventy Billion!!!! My laptop still isn't 100% and needs a reformatting here soon.

So that settles it, never going to cardomain again. My loss I'm sure.

Anyone else have this problem?

I've never had those issues...then again, they won't affect a Mac. ;)

CarDomain has notoriously slow servers, which is essentially why I don't go there anymore. It does seem that advertising is about the worst evah. I'm sure CD wd themselves out.

To combat pop-ups, you can turn off Active X and Javascript. Or, use another browser. I don't know what you're using there...

I like to use this: http://everythingisnt.com/hosts.html
It's a hosts file that'll block almost all ads and what not...it'll also help people with slower internet connections by minimizing the extra bandwidth needing to load ads and other random garbage....some ads do slip by, but you can manually enter the ad server's url into the hosts file, but I DO NOT recommend doing so unless you know what you're doing!!!!  when you go back to the site with a ton of ads with the new hosts file, it'll simply show ads as "page cannot be found", except for flash ads, those don't get blocked.  bear in mind, the more you add to the hosts file, the slower a page will load..usually it's not noticeable by the human eye, unless you've got thousands of urls in the hosts file.

hope this helps.

Eggfreakingzxactly internet explorer is a pos with so many security issues it is not even funny. Fire Fox will solve a good deal of your malware/virus problems on any good ole pc box.

While using IE about three years ago, I got infected by something while I was browsing Car Domain. I always hated that place, and I haven't been there since. Car Domain eats it.

I use Firefox with Adblock and don't see any adverts or popups at all. Adblock also blocks flash animation ads. This is a good thing when you're on dialup.

I actually get spoiled not seeing any ads. I'll go to  site like Facebook, Cardomain or Kijiji and wonder "How the hell does this site make any money, offering its services for free?" - then I visit my father and use his computer (he uses IE) and see ads all over the place. Seriously - anyone using IE should immediately switch to Firefox and add the Adblock extension. The internet looks completely different without ads...

*EDIT* Here are two screenshots of the same Cardomain page, one when viewed with IE7 and one with Firefox/Adblock. The first one is Firefox. Big difference, eh?
