Question about dash speakers?

my t-bird has had an annoying problem where the front speakers cut out intermittenly(not all the time and only the front ones)
i wanted to find out if this was some loose wires or something so i went into the car to see what i could do.
while i was in the car today i pulled out my spare cd player i had laying around and was contemplating putting in but after looking at the harness plugs in the back of the radio, and that the mounting stuff for it didnt match up for it i said id rather keep it original for now and just get one of those dollar store cd player tape thingies instead(obviously not a dollar store one though:hick: )
anyway, back to the question
after pulling the radio out and putting it back the intermittent cut out has seemed to go away for now but i want to be certain the clips on the speakers arent just hanging on by a thread so i need to get to them.
so, how do i get to them?
i couldnt access them from below and the covers dont have screws or clips that i could see to get them off and i didnt want to mess the dash up prying at them. do you have to pull the dash or something to get to them?
sorry for sounding stupid but none of my previous car had a radio in them so im not really handy in this area:mad:

The covers do come off. You can pop them off without damaging your dash. Just take your time!! after your finished, they will snap back on. there should be a clip at each corner of the speaker cover.

Yea watch out when you take off the speaker grills. You wanna take your time like dw4395 said.  Since there old they can break easy, so start from one side and make your way up with a screwdriver, thats what I did and it didn't break.  The Drivers side one is easier since its only basicly held by 2 clips...  Also if you have the factory stock 3.5 speakers in that dash, if they are the ones cutting out it could be age :-p.  Both of my cougars the dash speakers were shot.  If u wanna get some cheap ones to switch it to test or w/e go to walmart, for 4.95 u can get 1 :-p.
