Gutted my interior

Like every project on my car, what started out as a small project has blossomed into a major one. I had originally just planned on replacing the headliner and carpet, but I gutted the entire interior.
Years ago I put some Dynamat on the inside of the doors and was very pleased with the results, so I am going to continue with the rest of the interior and "improve" on the job the factory did with sound deadening. I will be adding it to every bare spot that the factory missed.

A nice, dual power seats and a 5 speed.  Looks good.  I've had my car down to that point.  A board member 8birdy8 who doesn't post.. ever..  (hint hint jim!) lives a couple miles from me.. He is basically putting back the last screws after having his car down a little further than that.. All the harnesses were changed out with different higher option parts..  Its been a while in the making.

The inside of the '80 looks kind of like that at the moment.  Had to clean up all the mouse poopy...

Is dynamat lighter than factory sound deadener?

A write-up of what sound damping materials you use and the results would be nice.

I plan on saturating the Cougar with stuff from Second Skin (one day ). At 70mph it puts out 75 dbA. Pretty dang noisy. A 9-12 dbA drop should be possible. 63-66 dbA is 7-series quiet.

I'm not sure, but I would think depends on which you buy as they offer several different types.
The Dynamat that I used on my doors was their original material and was very heavy stuff compared to what I am going to use now.

For the rest of the car I'm going with "Super Sonic Mat" by Thermo-Tec. I compared it side by side to "Xtreme Dynamat" and came to the conclusion that it is essentially the same stuff but less expensive per square foot.

I'll take some pictures as it comes along but I won't be able to give you a real good comparison of a before & after difference unless I make it to Cat Jam next year and we can do a decible meter test with someone elses Cougar. If that is possible that would be cool.

When I originaly lined my doors it seemed to make the car quieter but I never put a meter on it to see if it was just my imagination.
What was very noticable though was when you shut the door it was like the difference between a high-end luxury car and a cheap compact. The doors close with a nice solid "thud" now. It's hard to explain but it is a very satisfying sound compared to stock.
