So much for safety of a small town

Last night my friend Dianna called me to tell me some guy tried to steal her van yesterday.
She was at the TA in Harborcreek, PA and was getting gas. She came out of the store and saw a guy coming out behind her so she held the door for him. Then he proceeded to come up to her and ask her for her keys.... she asked what he said and he repeated it. She said "No thanks,I think I'll keep them".
She then put gas in her tank and watched him really closely. He was still watching her and was about 25 ft from her van. She hurried and put the nozzle away and got into her van and hit her door lock button as she was getting in.
He tried to open her door, then went to the passenger side and tried it. Then he stood in front of her van staring at her. She was on the phone with 911 by then telling them what was happening.
3 mechanics came out from the garage to see if she was ok, and while they were talking to her, the guy went over to a waitress who was going to her car, and held a razor knife to her throat and then stole her car. (He didn't cut her).
The police came and they told them which way he went and the police took off after him. They found the car behind a grocery store, and chased him on foot for about 1/2 mile before they caught him.

I am just very thankful that Dianna was not hurt and neither was the waitress.
Just everyone be careful when you are out, pay attention to your surroundings and be wary of anyone who looks suspicious.

Glasd to hear no one was hurt and they caught him. He's the kind of guy they designed the gas chamber for.

The one thing having a gun there would have done would be to guarantee that at least one gun was involved. There has never been a car made that was worth a human life.

Sounds like they both handled the situation very well. Glad to hear everybody is alive and unhurt. Sorry to hear it was in a small town, but bad people roam... we TRY to keep them all in Portland Oregon but they keep escaping south and sneaking across the bridge to the north.

hogwash,, not knowing the situation or if in fact the person was going to kill you or not is grounds to disable a person which it is very apparent they mean harm to you known or unkown.

A cop will draw a weapon on suspects armed or not if a situation elevates to a level like described.  certainly not kill but atleast disable.

I am sooo happy your friend was lucky and the other lady as well.  That was too close for comfort.  Certainly these two ladies are rethinking personal protection for the future and i hope thier choice in that protection is suitable.

As for small town,,,,
Harborcreek PA holds about 450-500 people per square mile of its 35 square miles within Erie county.
Gap Mills Wv holds about 10 people per square mile of its 75 square miles within monroe county.

Wow, that's kinda scary.  I'm just glad that everyone came out okay and that no one was hurt.  Oh, and I'm also more than glad the guy got caught.  Your friend did the right thing by locking herself in the vehicle and calling 911.
