That happens with all 1985-1988 T-Bird/Cougar digital dashes (both base and full digital). The first digit in the odometer can only be off or a "1" - it cannot show any other digits. This is a good thing to keep in mind, BTW, if you're considering buying one. That "120k mile gem" may in fact be a "220k mile turd".

You can verify the mileage by switching between miles and KM. If your car is showing 100k miles and that is actual miles, it will show 160k km. If it's showing  100k miles but actually has 200k miles it will show around 120k km (which is really 320k km). Just multiply your mileage by 1.6 to get the approximate km reading (but ignore the first, or "hundred thousand" digit in the KM figure). If your calculation doesn't jive with what the dash is showing, try your calculation again, but this time substitute the 1 in your mileage with 2. If it STILL doesn't jive, try a 3. And so on...

The base cluster does that also. I was ready to take a pictures as mine rolled over.
I had an extreme case of automotive blue-balls when it went back to 100k.

Whoa that is cool. How many times does a car loose mileage for you. Hurry up take it for a test spin so it can have 100,000 less mile on it when you get back.

My yellow cat did that a while back as well. It has the base cluster. I was hoping to see a two, but not surprised when it stayed a 1.
