Cad-T-Bird at the track again

Went to the track again today at Shelton Washington.  It was a very hot and muggy day for this area and the T-Bird did not like it.

I Put the slicks on 10 inch wheels (10.5x28x15), lighten up the front end a little by removing the inner fenders and windshield washer tank, put in 3.55 gears instead of 3.08 and tried to fix the gas line a little.

My best time did improve from 13.18 to 13.048@105.23, 1.849 60'.

But this was not what I was expecting, the car feels much stronger on the street and I had high hopes to see the 12s.  Also my 60' was almost the same with the slicks as the drag radials.  But everyone was complaining about their 60' times.

I made about 10 passes but only 2 of them were good without bog (lack of fuel).  I was talking to a guy there with lots of experience and he said I bet you have vapor lock.  He looked at my car and was not happy that I was running a engine mounted fuel pump, he claimed that it would absorbed heat from the engine and cause my problem.  Also I'm using the stock Cadillac line from the pump to the carb and it was so hot you could not touch it.

I think I'm going with an electric pump and replace the last five feet with flexible line (approved) and route it away from the engine till it reaches the carb.  Most likely on the fire wall up high where the wires goes.

Anyway new low time but I'm hot and head hurts.

Well you've jumped ahead of my best NA times...

105 mph in hot humid weather is cookin'...

Guessing without the changes you probably would have lost 3 or 4 tenths with the conditions... No doubt it has 12s in it... Get some cool weather and you'll find the missing time...

My prediction, 12.7@108...

Thanks TC50,

I need to fix the fuel problem, it's just not fun to have it happen.

I need to go back to portland where you can race till mid-night and where they just run you though.

May not happen for a few weeks, I will watch the weather report but cool weather may not happen for a while.

Updated you Ted. Unfortunately PIR wasn't much better tonight. You did move to #8 on the 60's, up 2 spots.

Thanks Mike, I know this bird can do better and I'm going to get there.  I will get into the 12's NA.

I picked up a Nitrous Works kit for it last week but I have to figure out the fuel system first.  I think for the Nitrous I'm going to run a separate 1 gallon fuel cell to feed it gas.  But it has to run perfect NA first.  This will give it a boost.

Should be fun in Portland at the next meet.
