brake swap questions

I was curious..  I beleive 94+ stangs used the rotor/hat combo vs our rotor/hub combo.  What would it take to convert our cars (86 cougar specificaly) to the 94+ system? Also how would it effect track width and suspension geometry etc?

i knew that was in there somewhere just couldnt come accross it... so i take it that 94+ IS rotor/hat combo?

Actually it's rotor/hub assembly. You can use all the parts from a 1994-2004 Mustang. There was a brake upgrade across the board for all models in 1999, so choose the parts carefully (don't mix and match pre-99 with post-99). But spindles, calipers, rotors, hubs...they all work on our cars just fine. You may need to put spacers (washers) between your strut and spindle. Or you could just use the SN95 struts. In the long run, the SN95 upgrade will be worth it, as parts will probably be more plentiful for those in the future.

hmm...... so the mustangs never got a rotor/hat combo? thats one of the appealing aspects.... no bearing packing for each rotor change

Huh?
That is what Eric just said.  The rotor is a separate piece from the hub/bearing assy.

Although the calipers for the V6/GT/Cobra changed in '99, the rotors and caliper bracket still interchange between any '94-'04 model.
The rears had no changes from '94-'04.

Aside from cosmetic differences, the Cobra calipers were the same from '94-'04.  The V6/GT calipers changed from the cast single-piston calipers to the Al 2-piston PBRs in '99. 
The rear calipers were the same between the "small" and "large" rotored versions, with the mounting bracket on the axle being the difference.

94-98 Cobra calipers are dual 38mm pistons
99-04 Cobra calipers are dual 40mm pistons

Heck, after Chuck posted I had to look it up myself to convince myself it was true.

I had forgotten about the change myself. 


Speaking of, I need to double-check what size the C4 PBRs I'm using in the '80 are.
