T3 Issue June 20, 2007, 04:51:43 PM Ah, yet another escapade with my cursed '87. I put a rebuilt T3 turbo on the car with a brand new Turbonetics wastegate. The problem follows: When accelerating, the turbo will spool up until either the firm ride comes on, or it reaches about 3500 rpms. At that point, the turbo looses all boost. When this happens, you can push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and nothing happens, the car simply coasts. You have to let all the way out on the gas and then get back into it in order to accelerate or even rev the engine for that matter. It is for these reasons that I think it could be a computer problem. What else could it be? I went back and checked, the turbo is grounded. Is it possible that the Firm Ride is kicking the turbo off in some way? Thanks for your help! Quote Selected
T3 Issue Reply #1 – June 20, 2007, 07:49:01 PM At what boost are you at when everything goes wrong? Is it possible that you have a boost leak. That would kinda explain that OR maybe the hose from VAM to turbo is sucking shut. MAke shure the wire is inside the VAM hose. If the ECU is shuting down I have no clue how the Boost from the Turbo could make that happen. Also maybe with the boost levels you are running what ever that may be is to much for the Gap you have the plugs set at. Also check your TPS to see if it is set right and that it doesn't loose connection thruout the whole range of movement. Quote Selected
T3 Issue Reply #2 – June 20, 2007, 10:00:50 PM We have a winner! The VAM hose was sucking closed. The hose is very flimsy so i'm guessing it does not have a wire in it. Does anyone sell these or do I need to take a trip to the trusty junkyard? Quote Selected

T3 Issue Reply #5 – June 21, 2007, 03:03:58 PM i fabbed one up today. works like a charm. i just used one of those rubber pipes that go from the airbox to the TB on 5.0s. they have a tiny little bit of flex in them (just enough) so i figured i'd try. took about ten minutes. lol thank god! thanks guys!
