Getting 88 5.0 AOD rebuilt! need opinions

guy im getting my bros 5.0 aod rebuilt before i get a 5.0 ho, i need some input though. When getting the aod rebuilt should i tell them to put in a shift kit? Are shift kits reliable? I want this aod to be race preped, or just strong so i can keep adding things to the ho like heads , cam intake, etc. What should i tell them at the transmission shop?  thanks in advanced!!

Get a hardened input shaft and see if you can find a 1999 or later 4r70w for the gear set and mechanical diode. A good set of clutches in a master overhaul kit (ie raysbestos blues.) Also the epoxy mod to the valve body will allow you to hold 2nd gear when manual shifting. You won't have to move the shift lever back into 1st to wind out 2nd. A PI torque converter minimum stall to 2600. Go to clickclickracing.com and post what you want to do there. Their expertise will guide you. ;)

Make sure you put in some solid strength into it. I went through a couple aod's before i went 5 speed. If I had it to do over, I would have bought one of those high hp aod's they have. Other people know about them, and I forget the details on them, but they are out there. Might be cheaper than having one made.

First off if the tranny shop is good and honest they will tell you what you need.I can tell you now it won't be cheap.Maybe buying a trans right out might be an option.I paid 2700 to get mine built,The one thing about local is if it gets a hiccup you can take it back.I had my pressures ajusted a few times cause I didn't like how it shifted.
