Power Fuel Door?

Was The power fuel door an option for all the foxes or did it only show up on certain models/years?

My '84 has a flip-open fuel door, I would like to convert it to the power style.
How hard is this to do, if at all possible?

It was more common in the 1985-88 cars because in those model years, the remote fuel door and the remote trunklid release were both in the glove box, and it was easier for Ford to wire them together off the new dash harness. For 1983-84 models, the remote fuel door button was in the console, while the trunk release was still in the glove box. Not as easy for the wiring...again, one of those "What the hell was Ford thinking?" issues.

Anyway, you can fairly easily adapt the remote fuel door into your car. There's the solenoid that mounts inside the fuel door cavity (with the latch), the wiring from the switch to the trunk, and the switch itself (momentary contact, constant 12v+). You should be able to tap into a constant hot wire in that wiring nest under your console, if you're going to put the button in the console like factory. Look for a light green/yellow wire.

I've got the power decklid release so i'll probably just wire off that if i can make room for the button in the glove box.

Now i just need to keep an eye out at the junkyard for a power setup, Hopefully it won't be too hard to get out if it's latched and has no power... :hick:

Well that's why I mentioned that the fuel door uses constant 12v+ power...the trunklid release uses ignition on 12v+ power. So if you tap off that power wire in the glove box, you'll only be able to pop the gas door when the key is on.

No prob, i can wire it off a constant and mount the switch in the glove box. :hick:

I thought on 83 and 84 cars the fuel door release was in the console.... Jim and I came across an 83 that had a black button in the console.. and my car has a hole in that same spot. Maybe an 83 only thing..

If the one in the J-yard doesn't have power no biggie. There is a metal cable to pop it if the power unit fails. Should be a metal cable with a plastic T shaped handle at the end. Make sure you get that part for you conversion. You'll probly need the Fuel Door Too.
