Rim question for the 99

Now i know its general rule to upgrade brakes if you are going to be installing bigger rims on a vehicle. I want to get some 17 inch Enkei ES6's for my 99. The question that is bugging me is would it be ok to leave the stock 15 inch system or should i upgrade to the 16 inch setup?

what do you mean by 15 or 16 inch system? My buddy had an 02 cougar, (was at catjam maybe 4 years ago with me),and he put 17's on his an didnt upgrade anything. Stopped fine and everything with them on there. HTH

The '02's came with 17's FWIW.  AFAIK they had the same brake system components.

What i am trying to get at is if it would be fine to leave the 15 inch setup on it instead of upgrading to the 16 that are available for my car. The only rim sizes that came from 99-01 were either 15 or 16 inch. I have the 15 inch stockers on it still.

There is no difference in the brakes from the factory for different size rims for the NECO's.  The only difference was the option of rear disk brakes.

I've seen cars that left the factory with 16's and drums.

I dug around a little.  THere were 2 different rotor sizes, but the hubs and whatnot were all the same.  I saw no reference as to why the different sizes.

There was 260 mm and 278 mm.

My calipers say absolutely nothing on them as far as size...

OK cool thanks, the whole rim idea is a litle far off as the cheapest i can find the ES6's is 138 per rim.

Why not throw them on there and run some brake tests... if you feel you need more stopping power, upgrade, if not then your good.
