Trans question

I saw a 88 Thunderbird Turbo that has a V8 swap.It has a floor shifter.The trans in my 88 with a V8 with a floor shifter is just about shot.Question:Is the any way I can be sure that its the correct trans?It is in a junk yard and they want $139.00 I pull it.I know that if I take loose the shifter cable I can move the gear selecter.When in park the selector should be at the rear of the trans.Thus the driveshaft should not move.Is their any other way to tell if its the right one.
