MPG Revised

Here’s a article about the fed adjusting there fuel economy ratings. And it points to the website www.fueleconomy.gov where the MPG ratings have been recalculated for most cars all the way back to 1985. It says my 88 5.0 Bird should get about 16 city and 24 hwy where it used to claim 18 City and 27 Hwy.

I think that’s a bit closer, I’m impressed.

but I get 20/33 with 65mph highway, 30mpg 75mph highway? Earlier figures were closer than the latest.

edit:
but its nice to see the turbo coupe with the same, or less, estimated economy as the 5.0L. Thats been my experience all along.

It sure is fun going back and looking at redone estimates though.

16/24 for a 5sp TC? I average about 26-27. I get as much as 34 in a straight line unassisted by wind. Sometimes as much as 40 with the wind.

Maybe they take into account the enlarging population, and fill all 4...or 5...seats with 250lb people?

Or use the new py fuel blends for better emissions but poorer fuel economy...that or simply taking a look at the car, its engine, its weight, and pulling numbers out of their ass.
