Intake manifold and gears

any one have any suggetstions on what intake manifols should i get with size throttle im lookin at edelbrock typhoon and gt 40 but i cant make up my mind my 5.0 needs a better attractive intake manifold. i want one that gives me a lot of performance. is it a good idea to put 4:10 gears or 3:73 which one is better and what are the consequences on the big one and do you need any special tools to put the gears on

You need special tools to put gears in, including a micrometer to measure backlash, etc and a torque wrench.  Installing gears is not a novice job.  3.73's and 4.10's are pretty close to one another.  The only disadvantage to using these higher ratios is the higher the number, the less gas mileage you'll get.

the general rule of thumb of gear selection is:

t-5  =  3.73
AOD = 4.10

What kind of engine do you have? Have you done a HO transplant? If not then those intakes are way to big for a SO engine. Unless your only going to be drag racing at a strip, IMHO I wouldn't go with 4.10s. 3.73s are a great gear. 3.73s offer a nice balance between performance and driveability. See what everyone else has to say also.

I've been told to use an Edelbrock Performer (not RPM), Cobra, or GT-40 intake cuz the other ones are too big for the stock HO heads, even ported

Depends on your motor. If you still hava a stock motor why not take it off and polish it or paint it up nicely? Unless you motor NEEDS the air, dont give it or you'll end up losing power.

the higher the number of the gears:
-The less MPG you will get
-the faster the acceleration you will have
-the lower your top speed will be.

it is a matter of what your car is used for. If you drive around town 90% of the time 3.73's would really wake the car up, but be ready to spend for the gas! If your more a highway person doing 50+ most of the time, you will be disappointed by the loss of top and crusing speed. If you still want rear gears and are a highway driver, consider 3.55's, but 4.10's wouldn't be practicle.

and do you need any special tools to put the gears on

if you need to ask, order the parts and go to a shop.

actualy you need a inch lb wrench, and a pinion depth tool to. its not that bad. but its EXTREAMLY time consumeing and if you dont take your time and f-up. youll be do'n it again real soon. so if you dont feel comfertable at all, take it somewhere. usualy its only like 200 for gear installs.

i have 3.73s in my rear, but ill be changeing that to 3.55s thats gonna nock it down about 200rpm at 75mph and rais my top speed a bit, and my mpg on the highway. i have a 5 speed and first gear is realy short with those 3.73s, i dont like it. so im swapping.
