weird knocking/puffing!! help

whenever i give my car any amount of gas it starts to knock. do you think it could be a exhaust leak?

You sure it's not pinging form py gas? Check your timing.

I've had this happen before.
Check all your sensors to make sure no plugs rattled loose. Check your vacuum lines to make sure they are connected and none are split.
Make sure all your plug wires are still attached securely.

Like said before, could be as simple as a bad batch of gas.

well, its more of a clicking sound, and its not the gas because i ran my car to empty then put new gas in it, drove about 3 gallons out and it still clicks/knocks.

go under the hood rev it and find the general area the noise is coming from. Maybe its a valvetrain chatter.

Is your EGR valve working ok? I've had one go bad and make noise. Or if it's at the back you could have an exhaust leak. That will make a puffing/hiss sound.

oo ok, so could it be a lifter, or rod then?

step up with an oil change and use the next higher viscosity, if the problem goes away, then your likely correct and it is a mechanical piece part.

If not, let us know.  I found a couple of emissions solenoids will clatter if not working properly although those are usually located behind the coolant fill tank.

To eliminate that, undo the main red vac line feeding that bank of solenoids and plug it off since it is your main crank case vac signal to all those guys there behind the coolant fill tank.

Retest and if the problem goes away then isolate each vac circuit by plugging off the individual color coded vac line.

The car my run wierd doing this but all you are doing is testing to make the noise "go away".  If your able to make it go away by removing a vac signal, trace out what parts are tied into that vac system by using your vac diagram.  If you happen to find out is is a vac solenoid,,,,
start car
undo the proper color vac line at the solenoid bank behind the coolant fill tank
spray wd40 in the line to lube up that systems components incase its just a minor wear issue
hook it back up and retest.
the engine vac will suck up the wd40 and lube up any diaphrams or actuating rods ect.

The same trick is applicable in air line systems on larger trucks and what not when actuators or quick dick fittings start acting up.
