help!

Ok, my Cougar is doing something wierd. it seems that when i fill the tank, it starts to run rough. Going down the road, if i try to give it just a little gas to keep speed ot gradually pick up speed, it starts bucking and jumping, then it will go into overdrive fairly hard. also, it is taking longer to start than normal. coupled with the issue of if i let it idle for any lenght of time and put it in reverse, it dies.

Could it be the fuel pump? i have written about this before, i thought it was the filter, but after changing it and the plugs and wires, it seems to still act up, but it only seems to want to do it on a full tank. at least that is what it seems so far. how do i test it and how hard is it to replace? is it something that can be done in a day? even if you are trying to figure it out as you go?

I've never claimed to be the greatest mechanic, but i learn quick and can't afford to pay anyone to do it. i also thought about upgrading the ignition coil. it seems to be factory and it would just seem to be a good idea.

i've tried that. i switched to a gas station that i know has good gas. it's odd how it doesn't really do it past 3/4 tank. just when it's full.
