2.3 burning oil HELP!! March 29, 2007, 02:07:46 PM My 2.3 started burning oil like crazy I took it to school like 25 miles one way and was low on oil i topped it off come home and only dipstick tip has oil. Oil pressure was like 40-42 at 3000+ rpm while i was coming home. Also I started noticing that while I start it smokes blue and while i was at traffic lights I would see blue smoke. The valve stem seals have like 3k miles on them but they were not the ones for the engine they were for a 302 but they fit fine they are the umbrella type. Do you think it could be that the valve stem seals could be the problem? I took off the vc to take a closer look at them and they look fine but slide real easy on the valve stem. I do know that the 2.3's use the se style valve stem seals but i had those and decided to give them a try and now have problems, If that is the problem its no big deal but I need you guys input first. I had done a compression check couple weeks ago the lowest was 165 highest was 180 that was dry. The spark plugs did have some oil in them well any input is appreciated thanks. Quote Selected
2.3 burning oil HELP!! Reply #1 – March 29, 2007, 02:53:32 PM Well, if they're 302 valve stem seals, then that COULD very well be your problem. Quote Selected
2.3 burning oil HELP!! Reply #2 – March 29, 2007, 03:38:56 PM Um....the valve seals should NOT be able to ride up and down the valve stem. They should be tight on the guide boss.Get the proper FelPro "full-metal jacketed" ones. PN: SS 72683 Quote Selected
