Low boost?

My 88 turbocoupe (5 speed manual) is only boosting 10 psi. I hear it should be peak at 15 psi. Is this true? If so, what could be some reasons for low boost?

mine boosts to 10psi and I dont consider it "low boost".  wait till you shell your ihi and it only makes 1psi, then you will know what "low boost" is.

Well, I was looking around, the bottom nipple on the wastegate actuator is broke off....
 Could this cause it?

the only nipple that I know of on the actuator is the one for the vacuum/boost line it thats not attached you will make too much boost and can cause some major damage

if its brokwn off of your actuator, and youre only making 10psi, consider yourself lucky.

Generally, when there is no reference to your actuator, the turbo makes the maximum boost allowed by the turbo. That can likely blow a headgasket or worse.

You need a new wastegate actuator either way you look at it, that should get you where you should be.
It's Gumby's fault.

maybe its not the wastegate actuator. Its the part that has two nipples beside the air intake, also has an electrical plug on it.

. if you want I can look around the shop I know I saw an IHI actuator not too long ago,but what you"re talking about  is the boost controler. Pretty hard to come by around here.either find a used one make a grainger vale or get a gillis valve(prolly the best choice there only like $40) If you still have stock exhaust and a working cat you can put a piece of tubing in the hoses to connect them and get 18 psi but only w/STOCK exhaust and cat.

Thats the boost control selenoid. Take both lines off, get a piece of tube, and connect the two lines together.
It's Gumby's fault.

My buddy and I are going to hook up a gillis valve and boost gauge sometime this weekend, and I have the instructions from turbotbird.com. Also, I have the exhaust unhooked after the cat and a cheap cone filter. But I did get it to boost 15 psi like it's supposed to.
Thanks for all the help and not :flame: -ing me.

If you hook up the gillis valve keep an eye on it. I just got my tc on the road again after a year and a half and was having major turbo problems (read NO boost). It was actually a frozen gillis valve that caused it. Switching back to the stock BCS cured my problems.
