Rattling calipers...

Well as the title says, my calipers rattle....BAD. I did the TC rear end and 11" front brake swap last summer and since then it has been rattling. I've tried the caliper grease/glue with no avail. I did a quick search in the forums and someone mentioned the 11" brakes are known to do this? Any ideas on how to eliminate the rattle? Thanks.

Did you install anti-rattle clips with the pads? Usually you'll only be able to fit one on each side but that'll do the trick. All they do is keep a little tension on the pads while the brakes are released to keep them from rattling. Ford should still carry them.

Sounds like the rubber bushings that the slider pins ride in have worn out. I replaced mine with Maximum Motorsports stainless bushings.
It's Gumby's fault.

Hey!  Look who came out to say hello!

I did the tc 11" brake upgrade on the front... and my calipers rattle something fierce.  i've checked my rubber bushings and they look decent.  The caliper bolts are all in good shape too.....

Mine rattled too. It was driving me crazy! My pads didn't come with anti-rattle clips, actually this is my first time hearing of them. My rubber bushings were fine and I replaced the pads which temporarily ended the sound. I could move the caliper around so I'm sure those rubber bushings don't help the matter. I installed MM sleeves too but never got the chance for a road test. But they sure as heck don't move the caliper around like the rubbers do.

I had forgot to put on my anti-rattle springs when i converted the rear brakes and it was driving me nutts.  I just went to a bone yard a few weeks ago and got the springs and installed them.  My setup was from a mark vii but there was one spring per side that clipped onto the bottom of the pads and caliper bracket.  Just puts tension on the pads so that can't rattle around as you drive.

I've also done the TC rotor/brake upgrade, but now I've got the same rattle as Bduly.  Anyone come up with a good solution to this problem??
Thanks.

I had the same issue way back when I did the swap on the old '83 we had.  Are you using stock or aftermarket slider pins?  I found that alot of the aftermartket ones were of a smaller diameter where the outer pad went through.
Best bet is to get the metal sleeves to replace the rubber ones...

Thanks Chuck.  But where do I get those metal sleeves, and are they easy to replace?

MM and Steeda make them. Many vendors carry them as well. Go to their website and search for a vendor near you for faster processing and shipping times.

Just to let your guys know the solution to my problem, which I fixed a long time ago. I took my wheel off, followed by the caliper and found the problem. Somehow I bent the pr0ngs on the back of one of the pads too much when I installed them and when it seated, it would rattle around. All I had to do was pull it out, bend the pr0ngs out and reinstall. Instant fix for MY problem.

I just installed some SS Caliper Sleeves... I seriously doubt it fixed my rattle. Doesn't matter for me though...

UPDATE: I am a liar. The rattle is gone! Two noises down, one to go.
