coffee pot value

anyone ever see one like it? know how to find out what its worth or if its rare?

Its a chuck wagon coffee pot that no one in my family can remember who first owned it. Its kinda been booted around to different hands. I use it to hold pine cones for fire starters. It works,,, holds water that is. the valve works.

its all copper.

When I have stuff like that I hit up eBay and see if I can find anything like it. Also try searching in the completed listings, too. See what some have sold for, etc.

I think that would be great to polish up and keep around.

find out what its worth before you go polish it up. I've seen shows on tv that people polished up an old antique and killed its value in the process

It's worth exactly what someone will pay for it.

Somehow I became the holder of all the family heirlooms. A 250lb anvil, a cream seperater, stuff the family cant bear to get rid of, they dont want cluttering up thier garages, and isnt worth a whole lot of money.

If its doing the job you want it to do, why fix something that isnt broken?

to be honest, the only reason someone would want it, is if they buy really old brass or copper tools and living "appliences" like if they were renovating an old cabin and they wanted it to apear like its in a period like when the pot was made.

Actually, my Dad collects old things like that. He just likes having them, and loves to have people guess what they are.
I would check with an antique dealer to see about a value on it.

it looks great right where it sits however it prolly isn't worth too much and I wouldn't polish it up at all until I had an apprasial check out your local papers some times churches or simmilar orgs. have appraisal fairs too

I think a pot is something you pour out of.
I would call that an urn.

Why do you think it is a coffee pot? does it have percolator stuff inside?

Does it have any writing on it?

its a coffee pot,, from the chuck wagon era. early 1800's when coffee grounds were put into a "coffee bag" that had a string and you toss it in the pot with water. next you sit the whole pot on the fire and let it come close to a boil and you have a whole bunch of coffee.

thats pretty much the short and sweet of how it works. I make coffee in it when power is out, i use a cloth bag with a string for the grounds. Its funny how things seem to change while others remain the same,,: )

no markings,, its hand made but my dad (born in 1928) said his dad said that his great grand dad said they were on chuck wagons when crossing the US to the wild west.

i got a motor swap going into a chevy the past couple days but i took some more time today to sift throught the internet with no real thing to compare it to.

Honestly,, i think something like this belongs in the Simithsonian. Its very possible since copper is worth money and such that there may not be a single one but mine. I am an antique geek and i cant resist looking inside any shop i come within 20 miles of.,, ive never seen one like it. I may donate it,, i dono.
