Prepping front bumper cover.....

What;s the best way to remove the paint and get my TC front bumper cover ready for paint?I haven't had to prep one of these before.The body itself,I've done,but not the "plastic" bumper covers.

never done it myself, but as far as body work on plastic goes, i've done that. Stay away from most strippers, cause they eat the plastic. i think sanding is your best bet but wait for someone else to chime in

I welcomed the dark side and currently am driving a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT plus, with a 5.9, Code named project "Night Runner"
Shes black on black, fully loaded, with headers, 180 tstat, e fan, straight exhaust into a cherry bomb vortex ler, full tune up, ported intake and T/B, MSD coil, and round aircleaner.
Mods to come: Fully rebuilt and heavily modded 46RE, and a richmond rachet locker.

If Your paint is NOT cracked, just sand with one shot of 180, and another shot with a 320, and it's good...

IF The paint is cracked due to gew bumps, sand with a 100 grit with a sander, and near the "yellow" plastic, go with 220, then the bumper is on the plastic, finish with a 320...

Apply the proper "flexible" primer on the plastic bumper before paint it, if You use a "normal" primer and paint over, after a couple of months Your front bumper will be "sandblasted" by itself, peel, ect...

Don't try to sand or strip all the paint off of it and don't use any bondo on it as it will crack.
Sand it down stating at 100-120 and progress up from there until it's all smoothened out.
Also remember to spread your sanding out over a larger area or you will end up with a low spot in the bumper.
They also do make plastic filler for plastic repair.

Tbirdmaniac is right. If its not cracked, just sand it. once you get it smooth by hand/sander, wet sand it with some 400, make it so much smoother. PS I work in a body shop.
