TOM!!! help with my washer

Tom
i got a problem,,:grinno:
washer will not spin

kenmore heavy duty
model 110  91310100
stock    13101
serial    cc2104391

washer will agitate, fill, empty but no spin.
I can hear the timer signal the spin cycle by an audible click up on the panel.

What happens next is the gold thing spins free in the pic below where i have a red arrow.  I noticed a set of brake pads and what looks like a drum.  are the pads suppose to retract somehow ,, i was able to pry on them and see if they were stuck or something but they move.  the pads look pleny good, like rear drum brakes on a car.

see pics,, the first one points to the thing that is free spining.
i find it odd that it agitates but wont spin.

Lid switch is bad or the pr0ng on the lid is broken off...

Mine recently pulled the same , just connected the wires together to the s/w... Now spins with the lid open...

Cat won't try jumping in but once.... LOL

i have a pencil in the hole to make the sw,, brb,, ill check that again and by pass it.

btw,, just found out that old norge we had,, with this huge tub was made in the early 60's.  it never broke down on us,, the bottom rusted out and i had no where to remount the motor.

-----------------------------------
nope,, i plugged it back in,, and when i shoved the pencil back in the hole to make the switch, it started clanking again. I see the agitator trying to spin but it skips in a clockwise direction.  It skips real slow but tries.

got the whole gearcase/motor down and found the broken part.  Ordered it and there should be a new part for me on monday to install.  looking good for 23 dollars plus shipping.

the whole assembly dropped right out the bottom easy as pie.
