Seems like you'd be able to.  Not much there but an additional latch, different hinge/spring I would think.  Then there's the electric solenoid and the wires.  Not that you asked my opinion, but it's more of a pain in the ass than anything.  Get out of the car, get the credit card and everything only to find that the thing isn't popped, but whoops, passenger's door is locked, keys are in the car, gotta go around to the other side... you know.  I guess if vandalism is a problem then you could just get a locking gas cap.

I'm sure it's possible but probably not worth the hassle.  Again, though, what's the reasoning, just to have it?

In New Jersey you cannot pump your own gas; all stations are full serve by state law. That's why he wants to have a power fuel door because it would be much more convenient.

it is entirely possible to do. The system would require the switch (momentary contact), the wiring (power, ground) and the solenoid which mounts inside the trunk, adjacent to the filler neck. Also, the gas door lid has an extra bolt-on metal catch. Far as installing it, give it an afternoon and you'll get it working. Not really that hard to do. I would suggest finding a car that has a factory power gas door and check out how it works first. Much easier to visualize the whole system that way.

thanks eric. i saw a mustang at the local junkyard with the option i belive i'll juts take everything from that car and it did seem straight forward but i just want to see the wiring for it  if it's plug and play or splice and dice.

btw. it is fullservice but mainly they just pupmp the gass  but we can do it ourselfs. my buddy does it all the time with his one car. and my brother does or will atleset stand with the guy.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Thats strange, in NY there a NO fullserve stations anywhere. And it is mandatory that they remove those little clips from the pumps, the ones that let you walk away from it so it can pump itself. What a pain in the ass in 20 degree weather having to hold the freezing nozzle.

was at a junk yard today, I didnt find any thunderbird or cougars with a fuel door release, but I did find contentals and crown vics with them. They run wires all the way to the trunk where there is a solinoid or something that pulls a cable that pops the trunk.
