AOD help

I thought my tranny shifted firm and felt tight especially for 160k miles but double the horsepower and I soon found out on my shake down run that she now slips quite a bit.  the 1-2 shift slips very bad now.  I want to pull it now and go through it before it gets worse.  Ive only made about 4-5 full throttle runs at different times and the 1-2 is all ready getting much worse.

1. how hard is it to set up and do you need any special tools?  I am a pretty fair mechanic.  I do all my own work but have 0 experience with the internals of an auto.

2. If I use a transgo shift kit to change my shift points can I also use the jet billet servo.  They both say they firm up the shifts but would both be to much?

3. Is the ford motorsports wide ratio gearset just stock 4r70W stuff?

and is it worth the cost just for that first gear ratio?

I dont need the AODominator for 2200$.  But want a reliable tranny for 100k miles.  I should be making 300 horse with my combo so what are the neccessarry mods other than a rebuild to accomplish my goal?

I all ready have a drain plug in and plan to drain the pan and at least get 3-4 quarts new fluid every 5K when I change the engine oil.

I also have a tranny cooler off of a lincoln I can put on.  Is it worth using or should I get an aftermarket one?

I can buy the master kit with performance clutch plates (adds plates) a transgo shift kit and a jet billet A+ servo for about $600 or I can have a local tranny guy here do a performance rebuild for 1200.00  and warranty it
  Any advice is appreciated.

AOD can be made to work well.
1200 with warranty would be the way to go.
I have had good and bad luck with AODs  I still like them but tired of breaking them.
I have my old one on my porch that wines when i down shift now. I have not even bothered to pull it apart and check i just tossed the tranny converter flex plate and my B&M shifter to one side and said i QUIT.
Only autos i would ever think about going with would be C4 or C6 the hell with AOD LOL.

Car is now stick and T5 number 7 is in there and i'm about to toss T5 to curb with smile and rased finger,  A833 will soon find its home in my car.

The wide ratio kit for the AOD happens to have the same gear ratios as a 4R70W.  As far as if it's made out of the same materials I'm not sure, but would guess so.  As far as whether or not it's worth the cost is a judgement call you alone can make.  Where do you normally drive? Will it see a lot of track time? Is it a highway cruiser?  Me personally I'd get the wide ratio kit and go with some 3.27's or 3.55's, but I see a good amount of highway driving and have not been to a track in about two years.  My AOD has the regular ratios inside with a TransGo shift kit and A servo from a TBird SC.  She barks the 1-2 shift and sometimes will bark into 2nd from 4th if I'm rolling along at highway speeds and suddenly try to make the pedal part of the floor.
