Well,I installed an Explorer intake to my car,and noticed a good amount of torque and power over the standard Mustang intake I was using. The explorer flows as well as the Cobra,so,I think if you have one, you'll be doing a good thing. If you don't have one,I suggest getting an Explorer intake due to the fact that it flows the same, looks cool, and is a lot cheaper.Good luck.

The Cobra intakes are really rough inside; I think the Explorer intakes are a little smoother. Now if you get a set of Cobra intakes Extrude-Honed, they flow almost as well as the GT-40 setup. But the best bang for the buck seems to be Extrude-Honed Explorer intakes. There was a time when Explorer intakes were almost given away...I don't know if that's still as true today as it was a few years ago. But any way you look at it, you will definitely gain usable power and torque vs. the stock or HO intakes. The key is getting a bigger throttle body (65mm) down the road. The seat-of-the-pants feel from just a 5mm larger throttle body is amazing...so is the throttle response for that matter.

I wouldn't trade my Explorer intake for a Cobra or a GT 40.I like the looks of the explorer piece, and, after I polished it,it really stands out and looks very aggressive.I painted the recessed "vent" looking recesses black and they really contrast great with the polished aluminum. They are on E-bay all the time.Mostly as seperate pieces (lower and upper),but sometimes together.Either way,if you're patient, you can catch a great deal.Sometimes if you check under Explorer parts and accessories, someone will list one not really knowing that they work on other vehicles. The 65mm T-bodies are the same deal.i bought two at different times for less than 430.00 shipped. The explorer 65mm T-body is VERY easy to modify for our cars.Good luck.

Hmm, I'm very pleased with my Cobra intake. You guys have me thinking of checking out the GT40 one now.

The internals of the GT40,Cobra and explorer are virtually identical as far as flow goes.

Flipnbird,
You mention you have 1.7 rockers. Is that over SO pistons with E6 heads and HO cam? I'm contemplating this set up but still fear valve piston interference. Too lazy to pull the heads and test it properly; I figure if I pull the heads then I should wait and save for decent Twisted wedges. Oterwise I've got a set of 1.7's waiting to go on. Let me know if you had any problems for this mod or do you have valve reliefs.

I think the rockers will work. The flat tops sit a tiny bit lower in the cylinder.

Good luck finding the Explorer intakes cheap.  Here a matching upper and lower set go for $300 buck because ALL the yards know who's buying them and why so they jack up the price.

There's one on E-Bay now for less than $250,and that's for the upper, lower, neck, and throttle body (65mm).Not too bad of a deal.
