Aftermarket Fuel Pump

I am thinking of replacing my aftermarket fuel pump with a larger one. When I installed this one, the existing filter/pickup would not fit (pump is a typical Walbro Mustang unit), so I used the sock that came with it. Problem is, if I have less than a half tank of gas, the car runs out of fuel at the racetrack in 1st gear (lot of acceleration :) ). Anybody figure a better way to do this so I can pickup fuel from the bottom of the tank & not 1" above or so (top of sock)? Also, I'll take the P/N for the donut seal for the filler tube. Basically I cannot fill it over 3/4 or it leaks at the seal, but I cannot run less than half a tank on track days or it sucks the fuel line dry :(

The only issue with that kit, is the O-ring that seals the pump hanger.
It's Gumby's fault.

Using a walbro 255 in tank with the mustang sock on mine in the tc holder and all is good but i never let the car get down to empty any more due to the tank not being baffled and the possibility of a lean condition.
Did have the pump in before the blower though and it was good right to below the E.

Looks like you guys have dealt with this same issue - I'm now sure that I'll get it right the second time around!
