I blew it...

The rear went tonight.  Power shifted into second, it hooked up and I let off, then normally shifted into third.  I still had power at this point.  It was only after I shifted to fourth that I lost the rear.  I didn't notice though until I was going up hill.  Then gravity played that cruel trick on my and pulled my car down the hill.  Its parked in a snobby country club parking lot right now waiting for me to somehow pull it some where that I won't have to worry about it getting towed.

This is just another reason I had to buy a new car.  And this coming after new rotors, front end links, an oil change, and a ton and a half of wiring corrections.  No respect...I tell ya.  Oh well...I'm off to save money for a new ring and pinion................................for some reason I just can't get to upgrading this car.  Had to buy the rotors because the old ones were under spec, had to buy new brake lines because they failed inspection......I was going to upgrade to at least TC brakes...same with this rear...I wanted an 8.8....not to buy a new ring and pinion for this POS 7.5.  :yuck: :shoothead:raspberry:bricks1::(

I know how that feels.  The majority of my upgrades have been made because of my old parts pin out. If i ever get a new powertrain then i will start upgrading everything else.

Good luck with getting your parts.  and just remember that it'll be worth it when you replace it.

oh man that sucks. I know exactly how you feel. That's one of the main reasons I bought a new car.
Luckily for you though, you have the GP to drive daily so it's not like it has to be an uber priority to get the cat fixed.

Sure it wasn't the clutch? Big bummer though. Sometimes your hand gets forced, that's why I drive a Nissan pickup :P

Yeah I'm glad the GP is an 02 and doesn't need a thing.  But the car I now at my workplace and I feel bad for just leaving it there...so unfortunetly my next couple hundred bucks is going to the Coug.

As far as it being the clutch...no go.  The clutch engages and the driveshaft spins in all gears....just no movement.  Sucks though.  I'm using the Cougar now until the Tbird gets done for my gf.  She is using the GP.  So now I'm reduced to getting rides to work and home.  Oh well.

Haven't decided yet...it had 3.45's in it...I didn't like how short the first couple gears were...I might get 3.27's or 3.08's until I can get an 8.8 and set my T5 up the way I want it.

The rear that was in my 86' is still in good shape as far as I know. It newer 4.10's and an aftermarket posi. It's just sitting under my parts car right now. If interested, let me know.

I need something.  I'm not even sure what broke yet.  I have to rip it apart soon just to see what I need.  I'll find out tomorrow what kind of time frame I'm going to have to get it fixed.  Depending on what they say....I may need to buy your unit just to get it out of there!  I can't say that the 4.10's would make me happy though. ;)

I still have the original 7.5 with 2.73 out of my Thunderbird from when I replaced it with the 8.8. There was nothing wrong with it when I removed it from the car, it is just sitting in my garage if you might be interested in it let me know.
